    Question Regarding Applying in Colorado

My father wants to buy a few preference points in Colorado. We are stuck at the Hunter education part. He was born in 1960 so therefore has never gotten a Texas hunter eduction card since he is old enough. However, Colorado says that you have to have some form of education number if born after 1949. There is a test you can take to not have to take an actual class but it's $25 and you have to make a 90 on it to pass. Colorado says they honor other state education, so I always use my Texas education number on it when I apply. Since he is exempt in Texas, can he be exempt in Colorado? If not, what if he doesn't pass the test? Does he really have to drive to Colorado to take an actual course just to apply?

He does have to take the HE class but it can be online in TPWD
My dad had to take it 20 years ago even though he was exempt

He can take the Texas class but doesn’t have to for Texas. I would just take it here to make it easier

TPWD... online only option for the class. Will not have to take the field class

Well scratch this thread. Just talked to my Dad and he said "you know, I think I may have taken a course back around 1987 or so". I just looked it up online and sure enough he did! LOL I don't know how he has such a good memory of dates but this makes things a lot easier.

he is not going to have to go to Colorado for sure. years ago when my dad and myself were going to go hunting in Colorado I had to take a hunter safety course administered in Texas.
had to have it to buy my license in Colorado, my dad however didn't need it.

Well, good news. You better hurry and get your application in though. The deadline is fast approaching.

Glad i saw this! I had forgotten about it, and needed to get my Points for this year! Thanks for the reminder! I like how this year you just pay for the point, and not pay for the whole Tag, and then get a refund a few months down the road. Always chapped my hide they did it that way.

Whew...........TODAY is it!!! Just went online and got my 7th preference points for DEER and also ELK. I may pull the trigger on both of these tags next year if it looks like I can get those primitive areas for bow only! Gotta find a guide service also.......have to make these tags worth all the years!!!
Now hopefully I get drawn for New Mexico this year!!!!

I put in a different hunter safety number every time I apply in Colorado. They don't track that number. Just make sure you have proof of hunter education when you actually hunt there.

I have always used my IBEP number with zero issues.
