    Tractor title question

Why do tractors not have titles? Seems weird to me.

If some one is financing one through a bank, then they turn around and sell it for cash but they do not pay off the note at the bank, what is protecting the new owner so that the bank doesn't find it and take it back? Or if the tractor is stolen when you buy it and the new owner has no way of knowing this at time of purchase? Just curious on the "no title" reason behind tractors

The last time I debt with this the tractor has a origin sheet that was basically a title. I have had a couple Kawasaki Mules that were the same way. I think its just a Tx. thing where they are simply not required to title since they are not registered to hit the road. As far as a repo situation, the bank has the customers information and address, if they want it they can usually find it or write it off. As for a stole tractor, they have identifying numbers just like any vehicle, and I know our local sheriffs office will run numbers to assist in finding stolen equipment.

They may not have a title but banks can find out of someone has a loan on it. When I purchased a used tractor the bank I used to finance it checked and it had a loan on it. They required a letter from the original bank to release the lean on it before they would loan me the money.

I guess it would be a problem if you purchased a tractor with cash and the original owner had a bank loan on it.

They do a UCC search to verify that any liens have been satisfied.

I’ve bought and paid off several farm tractors. Never received a title on any of them.

We are looking at paying cash. Honestly, im not worried about purchasing one, just thought the whole title thing was weird. Once we get one on the ranch it wont leaving it, so not too concerned

I would get a signed bill of sale from the seller with serial numbers included.

Get a Bill of Sale from seller to protect you. Attached is one I provided purchaser of a tractor I sold. Google one for Texas as your laws may be a little different. Good luck with purchase......

I was surprised that dozers, track hoes and tractors I bought didn't have titles, all mine have been in Oklahoma
