    F350 Dually vs. Oak tree...

Truck barreled thru my backyard privacy fence and struck my oak tree at 2:30 am this morning. Oak took a pretty good shot and stopped the dually about 5' short of my patio. No one was home or hurt but, my security cams woke me and I made it home from Boerne Tx in about 40 mins. Anywho, was wondering if the oak was in any danger of getting sick, dying? Lots of bark missing and gouged up pretty good but, still standing...gotta love a good oak [emoji269] [emoji106]
Was told the ins adjuster would not be out till tomorrow. Should or will the drivers insurance compensate me in any way for the tree damage? Has anyone dealt with something similar?...thanks!

I'd wager to say the tree will be fine.

Wow. Get an arborist to look at it, but that's a lot less damage than I would have expected. You probably should protect the exposed wood with pruning seal (https://www.lowes.com/pd/Spectracide...rosol/50220913) after it's inspected.

Definitely have it looked at and ask about sealing those scars.

Tree should be fine. It may cause some rot to start internally, but that isn’t usually a problem in a yard Tree. Do not paint it, seal it, or do anything to it. Let the bark naturally cover the wound.

Would recommend the pruning seal in a spray can.

Amazing not that big of a tree to stop that truck cold.

Shoot Sackett on here a pm, he's in the business and may be able to give you some good advice.

Yah, this is what I was thinking too. Sure would hate to lose it. Planted it myself about 25 yrs ago. Its got about a 15" diameter trunk on it...

I definitely think you have a claim for damage to the tree. A mature tree that large is worth quite a bit of money.

Jeez... glad he hit the tree instead of going through your home.

No surprise there, by the time the cops find him he'll be sober. As far as the tree, it's been a cold winter, I'd let the tree scab over for a month or two and then seal it.
