Mechanic question

So my little commuter car won't start. All you get is a click noise when turning the key. I figured battery and replaced it, but it's still the same. What else could keep the engine from turning over? Antifreeze levels were good for freeze. I'm lost.

I would have had the battery tested before I bought a new one.
I'm going with starter.
I'm by no means a mechanic, but did stay at a Holiday Inn Express over the weekend!!!

Starter if it's clicking. Can anyone tap on the starter while you are trying to start it? Use a hammer but tap lightly. It could also be loose connections at the starter.

Well I didn't have time this morning to take the battery out, and being that it was 6 yrs old I was convinced it was battery. Even though it wouldn't jump, I thought the cold zapped it.

Without continuous clicking, I didn't think it was starter. Bet hell, I'll be the first to admit I'm no mechanic. I build stuff lol.

Yes solenoid not shooting the bendix forward. A Light tap will sometimes send it forward to engage the flywheel. Once started drive to the repair shop. Might save you a wrecker bill are pull the starter yourself and let a parts house check it out. Pull battery cables off battery before removing the starter.

Sounds like a voltage problem. Battery, cables, or connections.

You can tell a difference in a voltage problem. Also, voltage normally goes click click click real fast and or you see lights dim real bad. A starter solenoid sounds like your problem. Depending on year make and model, the solenoid is on the starter. If you rap on it then you can free it up. Sometimes you can do this a hand full of times before it totally quits. If it is on the starter you generally don't replace just the solenoid. If the solenoid is remote mounted you can short out the two big wires to start the car. Watch out for sparks. FYI - don't use a knife blade when you are drunk.
