I agree with cotton, although each area could be different. We have put out about 60 tubs, 24% protein, in the past 6 weeks. Of course the deer densities are not extremely high around here, but I have never seen a deer or deer sign around any of the tubs. I have been hoping that they would turn on to them, but have not. I will move my trail cams this week to monitor some of the tubs and get bach with the results.

I have never seen a deer use a syrup lick. I even set a trailcam up on a syrup lick for two weeks one time. The guy (drunk) running the syrup truck spilled 1500 gallons of syrup on the ground before he managed to get the hose in the tank. There was syrup EVERYWHERE - not once did a deer come to it.

Feeding deer any type of complex carbohydrate (sugar) is not good for them. Because their principle diet is high fiber/cellulose forbes (instead of grass like in cattle) they have a very complex microbial cocktail in their rumen that gets completely trashed when sugar is added to the mix...they may like the taste but it is VERY bad for them.

Dont put the liquid feed in an open tub or trough. I did this last year, and the birds, mice ect got stuck like it was a tar pit!!! wouldnt be good for them to eat after all those dead critters were in there.

They make a feed tub for deer...

Never used it. BUt might give it a try this year.

I have been thinking of getting one of the deer licks since there is nothing else for them to eat this year.......
