Prolly Mollases... 20% protein. I wouud expect them to eat it up. Feed stores should have a 200lb tub for about $85,I think... They might have some smaller tubs also
It is a high protein liquid, sweetened with molassas. We use it in the winter to provide extra protein for the cows so they will better digest lower quality hay. That's the easiest way to explain it. Those large round yellow or red tubs on ranches are filled with the stuff. Typically, protein contents are around 25% but can run up much higher - up to 50%.
It is typically derived from urea, so you don't want horses to have access to it. Bad medicine for horses.
I can see why he would suggest the water trough, but is he talking mixing it with water or putting it in an empty tank? I guess you could buy it and scoop it in the water tank. Typically, our Co-op delivers it from a large liquid truck, like delivering fuel to ranches.
What is liquid feed for cattle, the rancher said we could try it in the water troughs to see what the deer would do...
Jason
Most of them consist of some mixture of molasses, urea, ammonia polyphosphate and water with some additional minerals and vitamins added.
Intended for ruminants only...
I hadn't heard of it. Yahoo search has a bunch of results. It looks like it is mainly a supplement. Several mention molasses I guess to sweeten it up. But hey, I am not a expert in that field (no pun intended). Maybe somebody else can elaborate.
I have fed a in the past a protein deer tub formulated for deer. 125 lb made by I believe ACCO. Cost $49 dollars. Deer really liked them. They would last a month or so.
Brandon and shiner - what you are talking about is not a liquid feed. They are feed supplement tubs and they are solid. The liquid is also cheaper than the tubs, but still quite expensive. I guess it will be until the producer runs out of the high priced urea inventories and starts using the lowered priced product.
We use Tasco. It's got some seaweed and funky stuff like that in it and you can get it in tubs or liquid. Our heifers have responed well to it and deer should like it as well. Just make sure there ain't any horses around or they'll eat ya outa house and home with the stuff (that would be from personal experience )

Thanks. I saw where tubs were mentioned and that is why I brought it up. We have used liquid feed in the past but not much. I think it is more popular in east Texas where the ground is not as strong. I can see where deer may really like it.
