    Tripod seat replacement question...

I have an old...real old(like 15 years) tripod that was built by an Austin firefighter as a second business. It has held up well over the years.

Anyways... the seat connects to the tripod top via a male/female connection. the female connection that is part of the seat is positioned forward of center.

Which is fine if you are dead level. But if less than level, it makes it hard to swivel.

I saw a tripod at a outdoor show in Lampasas this past year and the connection was the same, but it was centered under the seat.

Does anyone know where I can get just the seat that has that type of connection?

I don't have pictures, the tripod is set up at the lease. May have to get some next trip.

    thanx,

Academy. Boat seat with the swivel base is what I’ve got on my tripod.

Any idea of those will work on an old Strong Built tripod?

That is what I have on my other ones. If I had to, I could cut off the post on top of the tripod and weld a larger base to put a swivel on.

I am thinking I can just get the seat with the female connection. But where, not sure. I will keep looking.

I've always used 3/4" all thread rod with the all thread nut made into the seat. You are swiveling on the threads. A little white, odorless lithium grease and it is quiet, smooth, perfect.

I had one built by a firefighter that rented at little Shop off Rutland I think, but that was like 24 years ago. Maybe the same guy.

Flinger, same guy I am pretty sure. Sounds like the same location. I believe his name is Frank Fowler.

Great tripod. I built a bigger version of based on that design.
