Do you need a trappers license.....

Question... I’ve been seeing a badger at my place...would be cool to mount one I thought. Do you need to have a trappers license to shoot it and mount it? **** thing is making huge holes all over. Don’t want a cow to step in it...

No! Only if you want to sell it.

My buddy is telling me that it’s now the “commercial season” so I have to. I can shoot it and let it lay but I have to have a trappers license to keep the animal. The law reads very confusing!

I have killed one before and had it mounted. No trappers license needed. As long as you are not selling the hide you are okay.

I believe the law is that you may take a fur bearing animal if hunting legally for something else and you shoot one. Can't sell it. Don't know if you could technically go and actually hunt for it intentionally without trappers license.

The rules are if your going to move the animal from the property you must have a Trappers stamp (it looks like a deer license). Also if you’re are going to be a dealer in hides then you must have a license. If you are just selling them you must have a license. The only way you don’t have to have one is if you aren’t moving them from the property. But if you aren’t trapping then no you just can’t move them from where they are. You must possess a trapping license to move the animal from where it was shot, trapped or caught basically.
            Here’s the reg.

We have killed several off our lease and had them mounted. I’m pretty sure you don’t need a license to kill them and get them mounted.

No trappers license required, only a hunting license.

I have killed a few. Skinning is tougher than most as they are very sticky.

Shoot it, get drunk before skinning and take it to ttaxidermy. He’ll love you...

I haven’t read the law on furbearing but I too thought if you weren’t selling it a hunting license was all that’s required.

Where in the world did you get the idea you could kill 'em but could not move 'em unless you have a trapper's license???
This document you posted clearly states that "Recreational Harvest" only requires a hunting license and the season runs from September 1 through August 31...

OP, shoot that sucker and get it mounted... just don't sell it!

From the game warden that stopped me with a load of coyotes badgers and fox on the way to town without a trappers license. I posted what I was told then the reg. Don’t jump me, that’s why I put both.

Well did he give you a ticket? If he did, what was the violation? And did you fight it or just pay up? If so, how much??

Game Wardens are certainly NOT experts on what the actual regulations are, especially if it has something to do with game/fish that is not common in their area of patrol responsibility...

We used to duck hunt on the Rio Grande... Our warden was going to come along on a hunt, but he backed out at the last minute... Said he didn't know one duck from another and he was afraid he'd shoot too many of a particular kind, or mess up in some other way... He didn't know squat about the regs for duck hunting...

I don’t see where that reg has a “do not remove from property” stipulation.
