Settle an argument...Can you debone hind quarters at camp?

I know the rule book says:

"A hunter may skin and quarter a deer or pronghorn antelope (two forequarters, two hindquarters, and two backstraps) and possess for transport, provided the quartered deer is tagged and proof of sex accompanies the deer. See Cold Storage or Processing Facility for exceptions.

A deer or pronghorn antelope may not be processed any further than four quarters and two backstraps (example, steaks, hamburger, chili meat, etc.) until the deer or pronghorn antelope reaches a final destination, except for immediate consumption in camp."

But does not specifically say you "can't" remove the bones from the hind quarters....just that you can't cut it up into steaks, hamburger, etc.

So if you simply take the hind leg bones out of the quarter (thus only leaving the meat) is that legal? Essentially you still have the 4 quarters and the 2 backstraps.

How are you going to keep the meat from the front quarters in one piece?

From what I know it’s illegal to debone at camp. The exception is if you have a walk in cooler at camp With a log book.

I wouldn't push it, but seems like by the letter of the law you should be fine.

That's my thought as well. You are either going to have multiple pcs(more than 4 Quarters) or you aren't getting all the meat. If you aren't getting all of the meat is that waste(class C misdemeanor)?

If you eat it all at camp then you don't have to tag it right? We call it camp meat.

Don't even need a log book if the cooler is a private non commercial cooler. You can debone and eat what you want at camp.
