We shot a deer last year big mature 8pt that bled for 1/4 mile considerably. I just knew that deer could not make it. We have him on camera this year with huge exit scar right behind shoulder. You can search my post and read the story. Looking at this shot and from what I see this deer will make it.
Thanks for all the well wishes guys. The last spot we found blood was about 200 yds from where I shot him. There was good blood then it stopped. It would have been interesting to see what he would have done if he wasn't right behind that other buck. I was shocked to see he jumped that fence that soon. We we watched for buzzards until now. There were some in the area but nothing on anything. The LOs house overlooks the place so he's going to keep an eye out the next few days. Guess I will set this deers tag aside for the year in case we cross paths again one way or another.
I would say next time you get an angle like that dont tuck it up in the shoulder crease. Even for a heart shot I would be aiming back behind where the sun is shining. Like back of the ribs. Bet he will turn up again
I had the exact same thing happen to me last year. Exactly. Hit him right in the shoulder, got little penetration, he broke the arrow off inside him, and I couldn't find him after looking for hours. The next day I spotted a hawk and some buzzards and there he was dead.
After that shot I went to shooting really heavy arrows. If I hit shoulder again I want more penetration.
