Chilly morning up here in Polk County. I just had a young 8 pointer chase a doe through my hay field and directly under my stand. He was pushing her hard! First real chasing I personally observed this year.

I know the feeling. Im all the way on the far West side of Walker County. On the Grimes County line. I hunted all weekend before and after the front blew through. I had does on me ALL weekend. 5 and 6 at a time. I could have shot several as most were less than 20 yard shots. Not a single buck sighting yet. But i have been getting pics of bucks cruising by feeders at night. They don't stop to eat so i assume they are cruising through checking for does. The next day or two should tell the tale of when chasing will really kick off in my area.

Hope to have my nephew kill his first deer this weekend when he comes out for youth weekend.

I saw two different does still with their fawns Saturday morning in southern Polk county. In the past, bucks are usually ready and pushing the does at this time of year. I agree with others that the end of October and first week of November is usually the best time to see chasing in Polk. Daytime buck camera activity picked up at my lease on the 18th. This coming up weekend should be great.

Not seeing any activity where we are, but a good temperature drop this week might help...

Most every pic I get of a doe has a buck not too far behind her. I don't see them getting stupid just yet, but they are definitely thinking about it. Our rut is weird though, It seems like they chase for 6 weeks straight on/off, but there is always that magical week where you can basically run them over in a ranger.

              Liberty County.

It is getting close I sat for 4 hunts from friday - sunday and had the young bucks chasing does out of my set every sit . Made it impossible to kill a doe. Of coarse the young ones are always early but it is the sign of things to come . This coming weekend may start getting good.

Side note: I shot the biggest (most mature buck) I've ever had the opportunity at Friday evening, and I blew it. I think he will survive my poor shot, and pretty sure my dad saw him about 75 yards from where I shot him Saturday morning and he was getting around fine. First deer I've ever lost . Anyways, there was a spike that was eating acorns and I was grunting and bleating at him just messing around trying to get him in closer to video him on my phone, and the mature 8 that I shot came in on a mission straight to my stand. So, they are close and at least curious right now. This is Cherokee county Angelina River bottom in Atoy.

(None of the hunts were on a feeder)

Shelby county-night of 10/21 I saw a buck trailing 2 does . Last night watched a large frame 6 point 3.5+year old trailing a doe, no more than 5 yards behind her. They are definitely getting interested ...
ETA the last group of bucks I’ve seen was around 10/12

I have an uncle with a large place bordering DCNF in Houston Co. he doesnt hunt but feeds deer in his yard every day and has done so for 30 years. There are 20 plus mature does that he can almost touch. Anyway, virtually every one of them bred last week. 19th, 20th, 21st he had monster bucks in his yard and actually breeding. These are public land bruisers that came in with the does. he said he could hardly run them out of the yard..
