Polaris Ranger Crew 900 vs Jeep

Family of 5 is never quite easy to find the right fit. Currently have a newish truck I don’t want to tear up and a 4wheeler. Great for spending one on one time with the kids, but frustrating that the whole family can’t all go together. Thinking about ditching the 4wheeler for something bigger that we can all ride around together on the lease in. I assume that the Ranger Crew 570 is going to feel underpowered once we’re all loaded up in it, with steep hills and some pretty rocky terrain. So that leaves the 900 which is about the same price as a used Jeep. It would be new Ranger vs shopping for a used 4dr Wrangler in our price range.

Would strictly be used for hunting and fun, so if went the Jeep route it would not be a daily driver. Kind of leaning towards the Jeep since it could be driven instead of towed to the lease.

Anyone had/have both and can offer an opinion? Pros and cons to each of course, just wondering which we might like better.

I'm afraid if money were no consideration, it'd be the Jeep. and if money was a consideration, I'd go with the Jeep.

if you like to stay dust free and have heat/ac, go with the jeep.

IF you like the freedom of jumping in and out quickly and having something the kiddos can drive a bit, the Ranger is probably the better option.

For deer hunting, I prefer Jeeps. For quail hunting and general farm maintenance, I prefer the Ranger.

I'd say jeep. like you said you can drive to lease. if you need gas... drive to gas station. need to jump in and out a lot... take the doors off.

maintenance will be more $$ vs the ranger

also the added benefit of a 3rd vehicle, just in case you need to put one of your daily's in the shop for something.

            Depends on your lease terrain.
If comfort is a luxury you cant live without.... the rangers suspension alone will seal that deal.
You will be able to drive around faster and hit all the rocks/potholes/rabbits at a more steady pace than in any jeep.

If its power, and coolness you seek... Jeep.

the jeep also provides the ability of being totally separated from the elements..
If you like being dusty, Ranger.

If you can find a good deal, u will be pleased with either. Pros and cons of both. I have a ranger, and love it. For some people, the grass is always greener on the other side.
If you are really unsure, get a 4x4 jeep first. They will sell faster than a ranger if u change ur mind.

                we have both.....

The Ranger is the easiest to deal with, easy to hop in and out and load corn.....but that heater sure is nice on the Jeep in the winter. and the a/c in the summer......

If I could pick one, it would be the Jeep every day of the week.

I have both, and the Jeep will be a tight fit with 5 people. I would go the Ranger route for what you want it for.

I've had both and I would pick the ranger because it will not get stuck as easy, it will ride way smoother on the lease. At my lease it's about 7 miles to one of the stands I like to hunt and I can drive my ranger going 25-30 the whole way no problem and smooth.. the jeep seems like it'd be a tight fit for 5 but would be nice to have heat and be in a cab (unless you want to spend the money for all that on ranger. I said rangers were dumb and over priced, that I would never buy one I would just buy a used jeep.. Now I see why that was dumb to say.. if I were you I'd take the opinions of those who have had both, I would of said jeep hands down don't spend that much on a ranger 6-7 years ago..

Looks at the Kawasaki mule pro fxt. Better ride than ranger and way better overall quality. I’ve had both. Ranger is faster but other than that no comparison.

Jeeps really do suck on ranches. I know that may hurt folks feelings but they do.

Normally fairly rough ride, cant really haul anything without a little basket that nothing fits on, very little power if you have hills, hard to get in and out of the back, folks riding in back seat really cant see anything or roll down a window if it has a top, etc.

I have owned two and they have both been almost worthless.

These new Rangers are night and day difference in ride and performance. Upgraded our 2013 to 2017 at work. Complete difference. Polaris will be easier to tow unless you can leave it. These things sip gas. Don't worry about fuel being an issue.

You going to fit 5 people and gear in a jeep to the lease? Or have someone follow you in it? Then you have more fuel being used.

Another vote for the Jeep. Got rid of my Ranger Crew and have never looked back. I personally prefer the XJ Cherokees. You can find them in decent shape for $2500-$5000 just depending on how nice you want. Lift kit, tires, wheel, bumper and winch for another $2000 easy. I put lunchbox lockers in mine and there hasn't been a place I needed to go that it wouldn't get there. Quieter, AC, heat, no dust, cheaper. My boy has been driving it for 2 years and he is 10.

I had the same decision also. The wife even wanted me to buy a UTV. After much thought I went with a used Toyota 4 Runner and I am so happy I did. Mine is a 1998 stick shift with 4WD and Elocker that is like a goat man. I have a ton of room in it. It is street legal, anyone can work on it, has A/C, heat, its small and turns on a dime.

Very happy with my 4Runner buy. Plus when one of our other cars has to go in for service I drive it and the kids or wife drive my F250.
