Beautiful sun rises and sun sets. And ....that's all that's good.

I wouldn't live in either Odessa or Midland. I would look at Big Spring. We lived there and wasn't bad at all. Not that far from Midland either....

Just commute for the first month or two and decide if it's somewhere you'd want to put down roots at for a while. I was born and raised and moved away for school/work and ended up coming back chasing the boom. I would only live in Midland/Greenwood in the area. If it's Midland I would look from Central to Northwest Midland. It's like anywhere that has it's bad parts of town and if you live there like someone earlier posted, you are going to deal with some BS. Traffic can be bad at times but not like any major metro area. Wait times at resturants can be long on Friday nights at 7:30. There's always other places to go that aren't crowded. Schools have there good and bad things. I believe more than anything if you are involved in your kids lives as you should be they will do just fine here. The only draw back is you are a long way from vacation venue type places. It's a few hour car ride or plane ticket from big entertainment. But like also said earlier, you get to the airport and walk right through check-in and security to the gate!

I don't think much of the place. Roustabout/roughneck central. There are nicer areas there but as a whole I could not fathom living there. And to whomever said there is still a lot of tail there- have another. Or 15. I saw rough chicks to accompany roughnecks. Hotels are $150+ for low end and as mentioned earlier chit service at restaurants. Oilfield money might be good but you will need to learn to like that environment. I can't wait to hit the road home every time I work there

Yep, that's me. Geologist looking.. thread

Hated it, got out before the kiddos where old enough for school. Cost of living is ridiculous, I would not go back if I didn’t have to

Again, I'd live in Big Spring before living in Midland. Not that far of a commute...

I have lived here 34 yrs. It really is not a good place. Cost of living is through the roof. Housing is the most expensive in Texas, whether buying a home or rent.

Not much to do more so with kids. No water, no trees, no parks, no amusment parks etc. Good lakes are 4-5 hrs. out.

Crime rate is one of the highest in the nation. Odessa leads the nation in per capita serious crimes, murder, rapes etc. Meth is eating up west Texas. Get a LTC if you don't have one. Get one for your wife as well.

Schools in both Midland and Odessa are under performing. They are at the very BOTTOM in rankings in the State. Yes that bad. Midland is actually worse then Odessa right now. So bad they have to shut down the schools, rename them and reopen with new staff. If you can afford private schools for your kids. That may be your best bet. Every other yr a school bond election comes out. Every other year it fails.

Service is lack luster at eaterys. Sometimes it's OK other times not so much. We have malls if that's what you want to call em. Not much in them. Most people go out town for serious shopping.

Traffic? We use to get from point A to B in 15-20 minutes. Double that now. People came and stayed and we did not expand. Oh btw huge bond election fixing to happen in Midland here pretty quick. Our streets and roads are so pathetic tax payers may have to pay several millions to get them fixed.

So that's our little oasis in the Desert. Enjoy.

                          Oh.............we do have an Academy!
