What's it like living in Midland?

May have a job opportunity come up and would have to relocate my family. Would like to hear about the schools, preschools, healthcare, and living there. I appreciate it in advance.

I live in Odessa while going to college, everyone has something bad to say about the area and I agree it's not the best place, but I have never had a problem and I live in a rv park.. to me Midland is the same as odessa some agree with that and others say it better than odessa. As far as schools go, i really dont know how midlands are, but I would send my kids to Grady ( a bus comes and picks kids up in Midland and takes them to Grady). It is a 6 man school and a lot of farm kids. I would even think about garden city too, lot of farm/ranch kids also, Or use to be at least.

I was born and raised in Odessa. I lived there 26 years. It is not the place to raise a family. Midland is nicer but the whole area is full of crime and drugs. Those things follow big money around and Midland has plenty

Greenwood probably the nicest area/schools. It will be expensive real estate.

Do like I do. I live in a hotel M-F and commute home to San Antonio on the weekends. The money is out here if you wanna play in the patch. Not a family place by any means. Traffic is stupid bc of all the transient workers and low lifes who are here to take what they earn. Prices are steadily climbing. Rent has went up about 20% since May. Will continue as long as the work is here like it is. Midland is 1000 times better than Odessa but it still worse than most other places. Restaurants have hour plus long waits everyday no matter what. Service is horrid at every place you go bc workers out here think they should be making 30 bucks an hour. On the other hand, this is definitely a single mans paradise right now. Too many to shake a stick at lol. Working here is one thing but living here is while nother thang. Would never move my family here.

Raised in Denver City and moved off after high school. Came back to West Texas 6 years ago for my wife's job and ended up in Midland.
We love it here. We live just out of town on the east side. I will say in general the schools suck. Luckily my son tested and was able to get into the gt program at Carver, it's awesome. My. Daughter started kindergarten this year and too soon to tell. If possible greenwood has much better schools. And I will say part of the reason the schools aren't so good is because the kids parents don't play much of a role, while that could be true about any school there's times it seems to be prevalent here.
My wife is director of Autism/music therapist at a place in town so she's involved with healthcare. No complaints from her and no complaints from us as we've had to have various forms of care while here.
My kids both went to a daycare/preschool ran by a lady and her family. My daughter went from birth until she started school. My son still goes to after school there. We can't say enough good things about Kidstown.
We've made alot of great friends/neighbors/church family and family is close in Seminole and Denver City. Unless something drastic changes we will be here a long while. Traffic can be a minor annoyance every once in a while, but nothing major. We don't eat out alot so we don't deal with that much, but waiting times have gotten alot better since we moved here.
