Same bow you shoot for everything else. Elk are not that tough to kill. The hoyt carbon bows are nice because they are light weight. Lighter the better in the mountains.

Another vote for the Hoyt carbons but they are also my favorite bows for everything else. They are light, tough and shoot well. I have killed several elk with them. Do you have to spend that money--No! I am also shooting a Mathews Halon right now. It shoots great but I feel the extra weight. It's like a boat anchor!

I shoot a longbow, so I can't recommend a specific bow to you in the wheels category. However, every ounce you can shave off the overall weapon weight will help you go further. Elk walk (unhurried, unspooked, sometimes feeding) at roughly 7 miles an hour. It is best to be able to cover a lot of miles if needed.
Also as others have said, no mechs. Use cut on contact, fixed blade heads and 450 grains (if I were setting up a compound I'd still aim for 550+) or more in your overall arrow weight.
