    Elk bow

I'm looking in to getting a dedicated elk hunting though. What would be yours and why?

What: Whatever i used for whitetail.

Why: I'm cheap, and it'll work.

Same bow for whitetails and pigs--but a cut-on-contact non-mechanical broadhead, high FOC setup, heavy arrow.

Something light if you plan on walking a lot. Ounces turn into pounds...

I've got a hoyt carbon spyder 30 in the classifieds. It's like new and a little lighter to haul up the mountain.

Is the hoyt carbon really that much better? They are so expensive. Are they worth it?

Get the same bow you are shootng for whitetails and hogs, get an arrow over 500 grains depending on draw weight and put plenty of FOC up front and a great head such as any COC or possibly the Ramcat 125 grain head. Does wonders on big ELK!

I got a complete pass through on a bull and found the arrow about 30 yards past impact.
My setup was Black Eagle Deep Impact with stainless outsert with 100 grain Slick
                    80lb, 30" draw Elite E35, 505grain arrow at 305fps.
Arrow broke two ribs in and one rib out.

                      That's a lot of energy. I'm not a 30" draw;(

I said it above in another post, but I have and would shoot the same bow at anything I hunt EXCEPT for dangerous game and then I would only change the arrows, broadheads and tune.

I shoot a 2016 Obsession Def Con 6 set at 29" @70#'s with a 28" Black Eagle Carnivore .250 spine at 595 grains with a 125 grain Ramcat on the front. Pushing 20% FOC. That is good enough for anything and overkill on most anything, but it is forgiving, accurate and dang sure quiet! Why have a different set up for anything except Dangerous, thick skinned game. It worked like a charm on a 400# African Lioness with a full passthru at 42 yards.

This set up got a full passthru TWICE on a 345" 1000# bull in CO at 38 and 42 yards.

Good bow for sure and does shave ounces off the weight of other setups. Carrying one around the mountains those ounces add up.

The lightest bow you can shoot accurately. I have gone elk bow hunting times and only taken shots two times. If you can go with a stick bow, it will be a lot easier.
