What do you mean by different? If your talking identification then the crocs have a narrow snout compared to the alligators broad snout. Also the lower teeth of a croc overlap the upper jaw when their mouth is closed where an alligators teeth do not. If your talking about habitats. The crocs are often found more frequently in saltwater where as the alligators are found more frequently in freshwater, but will also be found in brackish water in marsh areas. If your talking about distribution there are no native crocs in the US, only species present are caimens in Florida and they were introduced via the pet trade industry.
