Good read here. I'm just getting into bass fishing. Picked up 2 Shimano Caenans. 1 Shimano chronarch 200E6. 1 13 fishing origin C. And just bought a Daiwa Tatula. I must say....I only do fresh water currently but those Caenans I got cheap new at a pawn shop sure are nice for the money. Bought the chronarch used. Need to have it serviced. I don't like it as much as everyone raves about. I bought a 13 concept A onebah and got scammed. Got my money back and bought the tatula. Was looking into lews and okuma too. But I've got a couple friends who one won 2nd in the world and the other still fishes professionally and their insight is helpful but different from the public majority. Tuned in here. I'm not brand loyal. Rookie needs all the help I can get

      Anyone currently using H20 reels?

I like the concepts and lews. Lews seem to last longer.

Yea, he was pretty bummed too. When it was working right, it was indeed butter smoooth, so maybe he can get it "fixed". He wasn't ready to give up on it just yet. Pretty sucker too... if you like turquoise. Rod wraps matched it... nice looking set up... I'm not sold on those micro guides tho... They do seem to be growing in popularity...

Yea, I don't see the advantage of micro guides. Personally, I wish all of my rods had recoil guides just for the durability.

The Lew's was good alright, but it was not anywhere close to that Diawa for casting, drag, smooth operation, nothing. I have since bought a second Diawa Coastal. They are built for inshore fishing/wade fishing. Already have the upgraded bearings and such... no "tuning" necessary. AND CHEAPER than the Lew's, though price point was not one of my higher considerations. It just worked out that way.
I have 2 of the earlier Diawa Coastal 153's and they're "ok", but hadn't seen the TWS models. I'll definitely check them out.

IMHO, Diawa has always had the best magnetic cast control system... With the T Wing System for their line guide and a super free spool with the ceramic bearings, they are indeed butter smooth. That over size cranking handle is mighty nice too...

Really not a fan of Okuma anything, maybe freshwater only rigs if they're cheap but there are so many GREAT reels on the market to choose from I honestly wouldn't bother even for that. Really like casting the Concept 13 reels, until they break. My Lew's keeps going and going and going and going. Also had an OLD Daiwa Xceler that I had for a backup, never failed me after the Concept quit working and had to be put up multiple times. I'm about done with Concept.

They are putting out great reels at decent prices and the new zero bearing model may change the entire industry. The only problem that they have right now is keeping up with demand. My son has the new TX edition, and it is far better than my Shimano's, Lews, and older Concepts.
Man, this is the truth! I have 2 Concepts, absolutely love them. Saltwater fishing for over a year, narry a problem. Smooth as silk and casts a long ways with just a flick of the wrist.

13 Fishing got it going on.

I have the okuma helios baitcaster for 2 years now and it has been solid. 15 bull reds, 43in black drum, countless rat reds, and tons trout caught so far on it. It has not been cleaned and still cast like dream . With that being said, it has taken a backseat as of a month ago to my lews team lite.

I've been reading up on those Concept 13 reels and seem to find the same info. They are having problems breaking down. Too many problems and kept me from considering to try one out. If it ain't broke...well, you know the rest.

I'll stick with my tried and true Shimano's.

This is my concept C and it is by far the best bait casting reel I have fished with.

Its amazing how you can get so many good/bad opinions on the same thing.

Yep... this place would be pretty boring if we all actually did agree on everything and liked the same things I guess...

I've got a thread over on 2cool about fishing rods and this new "split grip" design and length, and 1 pc vs 2 pc... Very similar to this one...
