    Question on baitcasting reels

I know anytime there is a question, bring it to the green screen and someone will give you an answer.

What does the green screen know about Okuma low profile bait casting reels? Are they worth buying?

I have an Okuma SLV fly reel that I have been pleased with.

They may be more popular out west, but around here I'd rank them in the mid level. They're as good as the store brand Bass Pro or H2O stuff, likely, and better than the low end stuff from most manufacturers. I'd rank them below the Abu Garcias, Daiwas, and Shimanos. Put them on par with Quantums.

That's just my opinion, but I tournament fish and worked a couple of years at Academy playing with reels.

I saw some at Roys in Corpus...I like the way they look.

I have some Lews and One 3 Fishing Reels and love them. 13 Fishing reels are so smooth.

okuma swibait rods are good like the guide select a series but if you want a lower end reel look at the shimano casitas

Ones made in Taiwan, ones made in China, and ones made in Japan... Pick your poison, but I would go with Jap. I guess it would depend on how often you are going to use it. If only occasional, I think you will be fine, just keep it clean and out of the dirt and dust.

I have an Okuma fly reel as well and like it well enough, but I wouldn't buy a baitcaster...too many moving parts. Get something nicer, buy once, cry once.

Yep...Just get a decent Shimano Curado and call it a day. I have a couple of reels from Shimano that have lasted me over 15years and are still going strong.

Okuma has had a hard time trying to establish a name in the low profile business. Doesn't mean some of their reels are not good like their Citrix. But don't expect to find some hidden gem in their lower price pointed reels.

I've got a couple of Okuma reels (Citrix and Serrano) and they take a DISTANT second to my 13 reels.

You're not going to get that kind of use out of any new Shimano... really, you won't get that out of any new reel without replacing several parts. The tolerances are so small to make the reels smooth any slight corrosion will cause a reel to fail/lock up.

This is true....Shimano was on top of the fishing world at turn of century. Poor and absolute dumbfounded decisions have let Abu, Diawa, 13 and Lews take the lead.

This, they don't build shimanos like they use to, I know Lews was the best reel for the money back when they were re-introduced to gain market share but I think they have since raised their price similiar to shimano and abu garcia. Don't really know much about okuma or how they cast but the display models I've handled feel really nice.
