If your father hasn't visited the Korean War and Vietnam memorials in Washington DC you might check out Honor Flight. (google will lead the way)

It's a one day trip (fly out early come back late) and they set up a bus/driver but require an escort (i.e. a family member or volunteer). Very well organized and they go to the n-th degree to help those with physical limitations - I got to fly home with about 50 veterans couple years back. From the moment they boarded that flight until we touched down in DFW American Airlines and the volunteers treated the veterans like dignitary - rightfully so.

American Airlines out of DFW provided nurses/doctors/liaisons to support the veterans - the captain let people talk over the microphone and tell short stories over the flight.

I've flown hundreds of thousands of miles all over the world and that was the best flight I've ever been on. If you go, bring a hanker-chef as your eyes might get a little watery.

I'm a bit of a flag snob. The other day I put up a 20' flag pole at my new house. I got a solar powered LED light with a photocell so it comes on when it gets kind of dark. Even though I have a light shining on it, I'm not sure it's bright enough. It illuminates it but not really bright. I think it should be like BRIGHT bright. Not sure what I'll do about it.

I have my 2 grandfathers flags that were on their caskets I need to get some sort of display containers for. Any recommendations?

I have about 7 flags, USA and Texas, that we retired over the years from my fire station. I planned on covering a wall in my 'man cave' with them but not sure if that's acceptable or not. It would be done tastefully but I don't know. What do y'all think about that idea? Yes or no?

I have a question about this topic. I found an old flag that was taken down for proper disposal. I took it home and hung it in my shop. Is this acceptable?

Acceptable I'll leave that to someone else, but it appears to be correctly hung, Union top your left.

But what gets me is when a person displays the flag and they let it fly till its just tatters.
                    Am I the only one?

Fly the American flag high and any other countries lower. Period

He was embarrassed and Thanked me. My question was "if your so embarrassed why let it get so bad, he said he never looked at it." REALY??? I look at every Flag I past. Usually belt out a very bad sounding version of the Star Spangled Banner every time also!

So I guess you could say it bothers me a bit.
I've made a call or too as well

Displaying a tattered flag indoors like your talking about away from more damage ain't so bad. Not sure if someone giving a flag up for proper disposal intended it to be taken and re-used...

And I fly my American Flag 24/7/365. It is one of the good ones (I buy at a flag store) and on an angled pole and has the porch light lighting it up at night. The blue is starting to fade so it's time to replace. I take my old flags to the local Boy Scout Troop for disposal.

My 48 star wool flag and captured German flag...I display the American flag higher than the German flag, it also has been defaced with graffiti by the 87th infantry division "Golden Acorns"

I fly a flag 24/7 in front of our home, alternating from the U.S. to the Texas and back when they get faded or torn. I don't care what anybody thinks about it; it will continue.
