Honestly you're not wrong. The number of people in the woods with eyeballs buried in their phone screen is soaring. "Oh hey I need to Snap this." or "I'll put this in my Instagram Story."

yea... after years of catching snakes in the wild and wandering around the brush country of south texas doing stupid things (and never getting so much as a close call) I was walking across the back yard of a million dollar home on lake lewisville at a cocktail party in some stupid yuppie sandals and got bit twice by the same snake. I stepped on him, he hit me once, I thought I had stepped on a sticker, looked down to see him hit me the second time, but he was latched on to my foot working his head back and forth pumping me full of his nasty venom. I knew immediately it wasn't a "dry bite"... intense immediate pain from my toes to my hip. Took the better part of a month and a half for my foot to get back to normal size.

All of the rain we have been getting the past few years has increased the rodent population which is the main source of food for the snakes. You will also see an increase in coyotes, foxes, bobcats and birds of prey too.

Dang that sounds bad. I killed a copperhead at a friend of mines wedding. The scary part is the only reason I saw it was because my wife dropped her silverware and I bent down to grab it under the table and saw it under there.

After not seeing but one Rattlebug on our lease since I have been here for I do not know how long, but a long time, I killed 2 Rattlebugs under out 4 wheeler shed in less than a weeks! Now I will be wearing snake boots all the time until it gets under 32 degrees! Not nice when walking up to the 4 wheeler shed to hang an extension cord in the dark and see something stretched out under the shed and realize it is a rattlebug. After being shot TWICE with a 357 and snake shot, neither rattled even after getting a shovel to cut the heads off!

I know I'm jinxing myself now, but we haven't seen the first CH this year either. We usually run over several in our road every year and kill a few on our place. Don't know what the difference is this year, but I'm not complaining.

                    Dang copperheads

Finally got the wife to walk to close the gate with me and the kids and almost stepped on a copperhead laying in the driveway. Took a week before she would step out of the travel trailer!

I hunted that Rotan pasture for about 6 years and the one next to yours for 2. I probably killed 15-20 in that time and every one of them were in the camp area. I almost got hit on that pasture next to yours and I had taken my boots to go to town. I try to make a habit of wearing them at all times now.

It's just snake Karma. All these people killing harmless snakes for no good reason are now getting their just reward.

                            Good dogs!

Killed a rattler this year on ranch road... first one in 4 years
