Pretty cool evening! I'm thinking there's not many times you can say to your wife, "hey, let's go extract some bees from a water meter," and her jump on board!
Anyway, as Kobe stated already in earlier posts, he knew there were bees in the meter box, but didn't know how many or how developed the colony was. Well, 8 deep frames later, full of brood comb and honey for all parties involved, I would say it was not only a very established hive but one that I was happy to have. The minute I touched the first comb section I realized I was going to need more than two hands. Thanks to Kobe, his wife and my wife for all jumping in and lending a hand. Funny thing about the whole evening was that I couldn't believe how docile the bees were. All four of us were able to be within 2' of the hive and no one suffered a single sting. We started extraction around 5-5:15pm and I was the only one wearing a bee vail and gloves. Although I never got stung through my gear, there were plenty of stinger in my gloves.
Both families enjoyed the fresh from the hive honey and thanks to Kobe for the cold refreshments afterward! It was nice to meet a new face and another TBH brother!
I'll let Kobe post the pics since I don't have any!
Thanks to Kobe and his wife again for not spraying the hive and letting us share this experience with them!
