In 2006, I rescued one of my best fiends, he was hit by a car at 6 months old, original owner gave him up, after a couple of surgeries, I decided to take him home and make him part of our family. I never had to train him to fetch dove birds, never had to train him whatsoever, he was just a perfect, natural instinct dog. Lazy as all get out, wouldn't fetch a ball, but a bird, he would die for. Just the most laid back, lazy, do whatever I say type of friend, perfect with my kids, perfect for me. He used to ride in the bucket of the bobcat when I worked on fences, riding spot to spot, unload and wait till I was done and load up again. He would go fishing with me and my wife, just sitting by the trolling motor waiting for me to catch a fish, he would fetch a bird holding it by the head and put it my hand making sure he got head, lol. Everyone I know that knows this dog, my best friend, Ruger, would tell you he is one of the coolest dogs you could ever meet, no he's not AKC registered or trained to the T, but he had more character than any other dog/friend I have ever seen. Come Thursday, I will be putting my best friend down, he had and still has a adenocarcinoma in his rectum, it was removed 3 weeks ago by one of my good friends and it has progressed. This is gonna be one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. For everyone that has a best friend like this, time passes by fast, don't be too mad at them when they chew up a door frame.
