That is why I was thinking of buying another one, used this time. We have taken the huge hit twice so far. It is time for someone else to do it.

What you are all saying is overall the little issues add up once they get some mileage on them.

I would never own one out of warranty. Actually, I will never own one again period. They are also probably the worst return on investment out there. Buy a new one for 65k and they offer you 10k for the trade in 4 years later. So the dealer is saying they depreciate 55k in 4 years? Then tell you with a straight face that same car is now 70k new. I don't want to spend time typing all the other issues but the maintenance dept is just as bad. You might as well just light money on fire. Sure do drive nice when they're new though.

Like any car - once it starts to ask for money get rid of it. I don't care what kind it is. You can get a bad Toyota, Chevy, Mercedes or BMW.

If you start to get worried at 70k, get rid of it. (see above)

Your safety and security is worth a lot more then stretching a car payment.

They have one...they certainly do have one. Might not be the oil dip stick but they definitely have at least one.

                  I have a 2013 X1 xDrive 35i and have owned it for a year.

I talked to the previous owner and he stated all he had to do to it was replace the brakes (autobahn can be hard on brakes), windshield (rocks on the autobahn can jack you up), and a water pump that needed replacing just out of the factory warranty (BMW picked up the tab for the water pump anyway).

We've put about 10k on it in the year we've owned it (currently at 62k), and all I've done to it is change all the fluids and filters, plus spark plugs. The only other gripes/issues I've had with it is one of the spring tensioners in the cup holder won't stay in place, and it sometimes has dead pedal for the first 1/4 throttle, then kicks in with a quickness.

Other than that, it's been great and we've driven all across Germany, to Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Poland. Heading to Bastogne this weekend and Prague over the 4th of July weekend.

BMW's depreciate so much so fast because they are over priced to begin with.
