    bmw questions

How many miles do you usually get out of a BMW car? When do they start breaking? What are common problems with them?

My wife has had two new BMWs. She took them both up to about 70,000 miles and didn't have a single issue with either one. I was wondering at what point do they start breaking and what is their life span.

I had a 735I once. I believe I put little over 100k on it. It had a few issues in that range from time to time but it's been so long can't remember what all it was. . I have switched off to the Mercedez and so far like it better than I did the bmw.

With regular maintenance BMWs go over 100k easily. Very well built.

What kills you is the resale value. They drop like a bag of anvils for some reason. My wife has a 2011 328i w/80K miles. KBB says it's worth $6,500. WHAT?!?!?!? In 6 years it went from $43K to $6,500!!!

Its because of the cost of maintenance on them once they get that many miles on them

Apparently the blinkers go out in them as soon as you drive them off the lot because you've never see a BMW use one.

I almost bought a 2008 745 (I think) from a friend a few years ago. It only had 38,000 miles and was in perfect condition. I could have bought it for $18,000. I passed because it was out of warranty and I was told maintenance would be VERY expensive. An extended warranty was $4-$5,000 if I recall correctly.

Well its because you people let the blinker fluid get low. Come on man keep up with the maintenance....

Wife had a 525I. Biggest POS after 80k. Non stop oil leaks, transmission went out, little expensive crap all time. Never will own another.

We bought a used BMW for our son because of the safety features, etc. that it had that other cars didn't for that year model and price range.
It had (I think) 70K miles on it when we bought it.
It had constant little (and occasionally big) problems and everything that needed to be done cost a lot. Those suckers are 'over-engineered' for driving so that it is time-consuming and (thus) costly to have anything worked on because they have to take seven things off to get to the one thing that needs work. And every little part is ridiculously expensive.

I have a 2000 M5 with just under 100K miles on it. I have owned it for 6 years. Probably have about $2K in repairs in it. Nothing major. So far, it has given me no reason to get rid of it.

My wife has a 2011 328i convertible with about 35K on it. Only problem she has had is with ignition coils. I did by buy a 3rd party extended warranty for it. She loves it. If it starts giving me reason to doubt it, it's gone.

I usually trade them in before 50K. Like others had said, all the little expensive repairs do add up quickly. I have driven at least 10 different beemers over the past 25 years. I can say the ones that are made at dingolfing plant are much better quality than those made at spartanburg.

My daily driver is a 98 M3. Bought it 6 years ago w 148K on it. Now has 211K

                            Wife's driving an 05 530I with 128K on it.
Cost of maintenance for me is next to nothing, I work on them myself.

That being said, I will not own anymore of them. BMW went off the deep end with their magnesium 6 cylinder engine that came out in 2006.

My wife's next car will be an Accord or a Camry.

I have over 150k miles on mine. Some sensors went out other than that yearly run flats is the only PIA I can complain about.
