Those warmouths are meaty little fish and taste every bit as good as a crappie.
The only problem is they don't get nearly big enough. I would love to catch some one pounders.
We used to call em Calico Bass as a kid.

Yep they were fun to catch as kids. We'd catch some in the creek while camping and fry them up. We always called them goggle-eyed perch.

Green sunfish, goggle eye, rock bass, ect, ect. Don't release it, trash fish. Marked up nice though. Don't think I've seen one like that. May be crossed with a brim or crappie, if that's possible.

Probably very true about green sunfish, but this is definitely a warmouth.

Just to clarify: I'm not saying you didn't have a problem with warmouth, but your post seemed to imply the one in the OP's pic is a green sunfish.

Looks like I stand corrected by you and a couple others. The body structure and red "ear" resemble the green sunfish. Like I said, I thought it was colored different than I have seen. Guess this explains why.

That's what I remember them as.

Look more like a cross between a Guadelupe and Black Bass to me.
