I coach and teach and we actually have a huge peg board where the kids bring in pics of their animals and fish. Kind of a trophy board. It's kinda sad when they bring in pics of 160's, 170's, and 180's and my biggest kill is a 130. It's a great way to get to know kids on a more personal level.

Amen, she would not be teaching my boys. They would tell her where to get off. Nonsense. She is in no position to making judgements about lifestyles.
Go to the school board and complain. Complain in your local newspaper. Complain to your state rep.

That just ain't right, man. I've actually taken my kid out of school to hunt---and it was an excused absence!
My old man used to take us out of school the Friday before the dove season opener every year when I was young.
We really have to be very careful who influences our kids these days. Venues that used to be safe and trusted are now suspect at best.
These left-wing clueless liberals live in self-created bubbles. Every day they skip through flower-covered meadows chasing rainbows and butterflies, while chanting, "Change! Change! Change!" I wish they'd all saddle up their magical unicorns and move to an island somewhere.
I'm only saying...

As a female hunter and teacher, I second the comments made by roysmoke. The teacher did not have the right to express her concern about your nephew's outside adventures (again, not forgetting, at least he is outside...I am a physical education teacher). She herself, broke the chain of command on how to handle this situation. Had she spoken to her campus counselor, I feel she would have gotten a similar response (maybe not as honest) as all of ours. I can't wait to have kids, and have them share ALL of their experiences.

I am a High School math teacher and I have deer and fish mounts on my wall in my room. I always talk about hunting and fishing with my kids. Some of them don't agree with the fact that I hunt and I tell them that is OK and we all have our OWN OPINIONS.
I do not try to persuade the kids who don't agree with me, that is not my job.
This teacher is in the wrong big time. She is not a psychologist and needs to mind her own business.
Is she also going to tell the kids what religion to follow and who to vote for as well???
THis makes me mad!!!!!

Honestly, this teacher sounds like she was raised with the idea that hunting is no longer necessary because everything is trucked to the grocery store, so we dont need to do it any longer. We see how that gets us with nice diseases like e-coli and other wonderful things now being grown all over the world withOUT the USDA standards while being grown...

got this in an email the other day....
: The four seasons
My fellow outdoorsmen, as I was flipping through the latest
edition of the Jack County Herald, I stumbled across a story
which made me think of Simon and Garfunkel's classic
song entitled "Teach Your Children Well." In
reverence to that timeless tune, I will pause to allow you
to briefly recollect the message of that unforgettable
melody. (End Pause).
Miss Sally Edwards is a highly esteemed third grade teacher
at Jacksboro Elementary. In an effort to prepare her
students for the all-important TAKS test, she compiled an
exam consisting of 20 questions, which she administered to
her class last Tuesday.
The exam purposely covered a broad array of topics.
I call your attention to question # 11, which simply read:
LIST, IN ANY ORDER, THE FOUR SEASONS:
1. ________ 2. ________ 3.________ 4. ________
Now, could you possibly imagine that 67% of the students
gave the following answer?
******** SCROLL DOWN *******
1. DOVE SEASON 2. DEER SEASON
3. DUCK SEASON 4. TURKEY SEASON
GOD BLESS THE RURAL KIDS OF TEXAS !!!

Ok. A little devil's advocate here. I'm not a teacher but my wife is and I hear about and see emails from some extremely unreasonable parents (ie kid is never wrong). Also, let me say (1) I hunt and fish whenever I can, (2) I agree that if this is what occurred then it was wrong, and (3) I'm not accusing anyone here of lying or being unreasonable.
In that context, what else was discussed? Were there other behaviors mentioned? If it was just about hunting, I would get the principal involved as quickly as possible and go from there.
If there were other behaviors, then I would prayerfully consider them (at least hopefully, if it was my child). I hear about way too many PT conferences where the parent focuses on one issue and misses the bigger picture.
With all of that said, I hope this situation turns out best for everyone. If his only problem is a passion for the outdoors, then it sounds like you've got a real good kid on your hands - nice problem to have.

I had 2 teachers I will never forget last year. One of them started a Big Buck Contest in the school, and we watched videos of deer from his ranch and talked management. The other teacher sent me to the principals office for coming to class with blood on my boots (a couple of big drops... if I cleaned them I would of been late) and for having a TTH magazine on my desk. Even in a rural school, some people just don't get it.
My mom is a teacher in 6th grade, and her students always ask how I've done this year and to see pictures. One of her friends absolutely HATES hunting, and tells me on a regular basis.
Personally, I would suggest a tree stand counseling session with a deer camp support group. I turned out alright
