This is what is teaching our kids!!!!

I am not going to mention where my nephew goes to school, but this is what my sister heard from his teacher today. My sister shows up for a teacher parent conference and was totally floored. The first thing the teacher said was that she thinks my nephew needs counseling and my sister asked why. She stated that my nephew always talks about catching fish and going hunting and killing things, and that she found that disturbing. Let me give you a little history on my family. We hunt and fish, shoot guns and shoot bows somewhere every weekend of the year. I have never been in trouble with the law or ever done any kind of drugs in my life that goes for all my family. I have been blessed to have been raised by a wonderful mother and father, and we think that if you introduce kids to the outdoors at a young age this is the best way to keep them out of trouble. My nephew does talk about hunting and fishing and killing things because he has lived it all his life. We don't shoot nothing we wont eat and do not waste anything. By the way this kid is a straight A student and one hell of an athlete. I just found this disturbing that this teacher has never been outdoors or hunted or fished and has the nerve to say that she thinks that something is wrong with him.
I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks and is it wrong to raise a kid in the outdoors and teach them while they are young. Not that we would change our ways for anyone I just want yalls input.

Of course it isn't wrong! There's obviously something wrong with that teacher and her attitude. Maybe she's not a bad person (giving her the benefit of the doubt). Maybe she's just ignorant. Maybe she's not a rabid liberal PETA supporter.

Seriously, I'd go down and talk with the principal about the teacher's opinion than my child was mentally ill just because he likes hunting and fishing.

            She must be from California

I would set up a conference with her and another teacher who is a hunter, so they can eexplain what the deal is.

              How old is this child?

Doesnt really matter, I was just wondering.

Yeah that teacher is crazy. Is this a "country" school or a "city" school? Where we live its completly normal for the kids in elementary school to talk about weekend or evening hunting and fishing trips.

My son takes LDPs, skulls, hides, and even the occasional dove foot to show and tell at school. Bet THAT would freak her out!

He takes frozen backstrap to his teacher every now and then too (rather than an apple).

I would suggest she focus her efforts on the kids from unstable homes who really need her help.... don't let it get to you

I cant believe that people in this world dont believe in hunting and fishing. I guess that was the way I was raised. I think I would tell her to join me one weekend and learn what its like to hunt and fish.

The gall of some people. I read something similar on a different forum awhile back. What you have to remember is ALOT of city folk never had the same opportunities that we had, growing up out in the country. Heck I grew up on a farm, where we raised our own food. We knew not to get too attached to our livestock because one day we would be eating it. Cows, hogs, chickens, rabbits. I guess when you buy your food already processed you lose the connection with a live animal. A package of hamberger meat doesn't have big brown eyes and moo at you when you walk to the fence.

She's sure not from Louisiana! I remember when I was there adjusting claims for Rita there was at least one town that shut down the schools for opening day of squirrel season! I may be wrong but I think it was Ville Platte.

How ironic......There used to be a day and age when a kid who was quiet and stayed in their room all day wanting nothing to do with other kids, activities or the outdoors got sent to counseling.....now that has become the norm with cable TV, PCs and video games......and this kid, the outgoing adventurous one, needs to be sent to counseling. I would have laughed in her face after a "you gotta be ****ing me?"

It's a sad world we live in today.

Does she not know that she is in Texas? That hunting and fishing is a tradition and a legacy. I swear we biiiiih and moan about kids sitting on their butts playing video games and not getting enough exercise. Then some liberal, tree hugging, PETA Teacher thinks this child has issues because he is excited about his adventures.

Well that beats the h&ll out of me.

If it makes you feel any better. My wife is a teacher also, and by this time every year she has several students who ask what I killed/saw every monday.
