    Suggestions for deer feeder

I'm making a feeder using a 55 gallon metal drum. I need some suggestions on a control unit/timer and 12v vs 6v. I am only going to be feeding corn out of this one. Thanks in advance.

    Get "The Timer"

Avoid cheapo brands like Wildgame Innovations. I have had bad luck with the Moultrie as well.

6v vs 12v. 12V can usually throw farther if you need that... but 6v works fine for all my feeders. If you are getting on a lease, find out what your leasemates use. It is a good idea to keep some extra batteries and panels at camp and is nice when the spares match your setup.

Go see Karl at Ultramatic Feeders . He will hook you up. His lower units, with The Timer, are nice!

        Another vote for "The Timer"

Look up Texas Stairs and Rails. It's in north houston.

I built a 55 gallon metal feeder back in the mid 80s and put a Triple C feeder unit on it. I upgraded to his digital timer in the early 2000s. In 2012 I replaced the motor and I replaced the spinner plate this year.

I've had such good success with triple C feeder units I've bought 3 more since 2003. In my opinion they are well worth the cost.

I use the 6 volt but he also makes a 12 volt. The 12 volt has other accessaries the 6 volt does not have such as lights.

There may be other units out there that are just as good, but I don't believe you can find better.

West Texas Feeder Supply in Odessa has a great unit with the Timer is the center piece. I have 4 of them and they have been running for years. FND said it right when he said "no 6v units"!

I'm a fan of the 12v lower units by ForEverlast. Site sponsor and 5yr warranty.

                          Ultramatic mechanisms are awesome
I have had pretty good luck with Texas hunters 12 volt.
                          FYI
For those of you with pig problems in soft sand, putting cattle panels flat on the ground under the legs has kept the hogs from rooting around the legs, tilting the feeder over and digging a deep hole under the feeder.

I use the timer from west texas feeder supply. I have never used 12v and see no need to unless you want the corn to throw farther. I'm not sure what benefit you get beside that.
