We saw one in Arlington. He was on the sidewalk. When we stopped to catch him he took off.

Dove hunted in Dilley many years. The ranch had a couple pictures of the monkeys.

I just watched the documentary in that first link. Reading the posts I assume that sanctuary is no longer operating, I think the last date they mentioned in the video was mid 90's. Is it because they all escaped or was it due to funding? I think I will do some more research today out of curiosity.

It was about that time I noticed, it wasn't a girl scout! It was a 60ft tall crustacean from the Paleozoic Period!

So, can you or can you not shoot them? Legally.

This is what I was wondering as well.

Never know what you will see in the woods.

Older article but it looks like you cannot.

In 1989 my wife and I were driving on Hwy 6 below Stephenville and some kind of monkey crossed the road in front of us in broad daylight. No idea what kind of monkey it was but we figured it had escaped from one of the game ranches in the area.

I remember seeing a couple of them back in the early 80's.

My grand pa killed a monkey in the Neches River bottom back in the late '50's while squirrel hunting... thought it was a coon looking over a fork in a big old oak tree... He shot, it fell out on the other side of the tree. When he went to pick up his "coon", it turned out to be a monkey. ...had a small chain around his neck like a collar... come to find out, there's been one of the travelling circus shows in the area a few month before (during that previous summer) and due to an auto accident, some of their animals had gotten loose... He took it home and skinned it, but granny wouldn't cook it... told grand pa it looked too much like a little baby...

I saw one about 6 years ago or so about a mile off the San Antonio River in Victoria County. My family and hunting buddies thought I was crazy but I know what I saw! I texted this article to them! BOOM. Told yall I wasn't crazy! LOL

Heard about a year back the one I saw was likely turned loose by an Oconnor family member that used to have some exotic animals on a ranch about a mile as the crow flies from where we hunted.
