I'll be flamed for this but I'm against it. No way should every Joe Blow be carrying without proper schooling and training. Just because you can pass a BG check and buy a gun don't mean you are qualified to carry it on your person.

My class was very thorough on when deadly force was warranted. Too many people don't know that info.

My CHL instructor was very informative. It's not all just about the X's and O's of the laws.

I'm fine with keeping it a requirement to take a class to obtain a carry permit/license. I don't see it as much different than needing a license to drive a car. One should at least be able to meet a certain minimum education/proficiency before going out in public.

What you do on your property or in your house is your thing; but once you walk out in public, the general population can be affected by your actions.

I was very surprised to see Texas required training. In PA (I know nobody cares about the north) we just took our app to the Sheriff, he ran your background, and you walked out with your LTCF. I have to be a resident for 6 months before I can get the Texas carry permit so I have not taken the course yet. I don't really have a problem with this bill because anybody carrying with criminal or ill intent probably don't have their Texas permit anyway.
