Where did all the deer in Cisco go?

Anyone else not seeing many deer in the Cisco area? We are seeing very few deer since bow only season and some other folks we have talked to say they are not seeing very many either.

This has been a very bad year at Ben's place in Cisco. Our cameras are not even showing much at all. We did have several mature deer, but that had little horns which is unusual as well. We have been watching the cameras and checking the feeders, but we have not put any hunts because the lack of game. I keep hoping that it will turn, but from the sounds of it does not sound good.

On a side note it sounds like world war 3 on the weekends, so maybe that is why.

I couldn't even find any tracks on our place in Rising Star over Thanksgiving.

Lots of gun shots around our place also. Can't figure out if they are hunting or target shooting sometimes.

I see plenty of tracks on my place, about halfway between Cisco and Cross Plains. I've only seen a small doe and one buck. And he was well inside the antler thing. I'm headed out this week-end to try again. We'll see.

            Same in Leon County

I have had the same problem where I hunt, between Leona and Flynn in Leon Cty. Saw alot of deer throughout October, but as soon as gun season opened they all seemed to disappear. A certain amount of that is expected every year, but this year has been ridiculous. I sat a stand yesterday, however, and saw more deer in 3 1/2 hours than I saw for all of November. Good luck.

I'll make my last hunt of the season this weekend. Same thing at my place, lots of shooting around me, but I'm not seeing anything! I've been on this place for two years. Last year was bad 'cause the weeds were so tall. I did pass on two legal bucks last year. I've seen one legal buck this year, but it was a 1.5 yo spike! Real frustrated with the area so far. I've heard a lot of good things from past seasons, but I've not experienced any yet. All of my deer seem to be nocturnal according to the camera.

We are in the same boat with low deer counts. I had 2 hunts this year were I only saw 3 deer when I am use to seeing 20 plus. My cousin said there was a article in the Abilene paper reporting how deer counts are down. I guess it is just one of those years.

I shot a doe opening day in Eastland County.

                      I eventually found her.

We hunt south of Cisco also and had good bucks on camera in Oct.(at night) and then all of a sudden nothing, And really did not see much of a rut and that was when I thought we might see some movement during the day. Oh well, still good to get in the woods.

Has the rut even started in Cisco?

This hasn't been one of our better years in San Saba. Usually we take 4 to 6 real nice shooters per year (10 people) and a number of culls and does but this year no one has shot anything worth bragging about. It has been a very slow and strange year indeed. Not even seeing much on the trail cams.

They need rain there in the worst way.
