I agree with the statements above of not getting them the same age. My 2 labs are 4 years apart, but they are Mother and Son (I kept 1 out of her last breeding). They still have a strong bond, but they know I am who they look to for guidance. This was not the primary reason for spacing them out. My main reason was so that when the female got too old to hunt, I still had another option.

I have two labs from the same litter, and has been an advantage because they keep each other company. Only downside was you have to train them separately.

I also recommend two. I was hesitant about taking and walking two, etc., etc, but I feel so much better they have company when I am gone to work and seeing the cuddle together and sleep together is really reassuring. I have a male and female and yes, they have to fuss a little and figure out who is Alpha. But that don't cause any problem. I will not ever have just one dog again.

I'm a two dog owner and wouldn't have it any other way

We have 2 Golden Retrievers (brother and sister, 4 years old), a 14 year old Australian Shepard and a 7 year old puddle/mutt looking thing. That all live in the house, are inside while we are at school and work etc. All is well and life is entertaining.

It's all going to depend on how well you are at training. I would have no problem getting two dogs from the same litter or two the same age from two different litters if that's what I wanted to do.

We got two pups from the same litter. (sisters)

It's great. We had one dog for a while in the past, but after having two....probably try to keep two from now on.

I have always had two dogs, and several of them have grown up together. I agree with the general consensus here and having two dogs the same or close to the same age will be okay. Unless you can be home all the time, the dogs would be happier with someone to keep them busy and play with while you are gone. I have never had a problem with one of the pups not listening to me because of the other dog, I think that revolves around the dynamic of the family.

I am usually the one that disciplines, gives treats, works with them, and feed them and my wife wonders why they do not listen to her lol!

The answer really depends on what you want the dogs for. Are they just going to be family pets that spend a lot of time home alone? If so, the. It's a good idea to get two at the same time to keep each other company. If you're looking to train a dog for a specific task however, you will never get as good results. It's always better to train each dog individually and then liar them later after at least the first one has been trained. What are you planning on using the dogs for?

This! Have done both, dogs just gotta know who the alpha is, do basics individually then work up to individually together.

Main priority will be family pets. I will try to train them myself individually just to retrieve doves and the occasional duck. Maybe try to train them for shed hunting but nothing for a specific task. My wife works during the day and I'm away 3 weeks at a time due to work. Just thought having two would keep them from being very lonely. They can keep each other company, I think
