Is having two pups a good idea

Been thinking about getting two pups, male and female from different litters. I know many have two dogs, 3 and some even more. Is it a bad idea to have two roughly the same age or is it better to just get one and wait six months or a year before getting another one. And I'm not trying to start some kind of breeding operation or anything like that. What does the GS say?

If you have two the same age or close to it they will bond more with each other than they will with you.

      Best of luck to you.

Not a good idea IMO. My buddy tried that and it ended up being a nightmare.

I cant think of a good reason to have 1 pup. I tried
It once and it was a pure disaster.
Any dog i get from now on will be at least a year or more

I have had 2 Rotties twice in our family. fFrst set was from different litters, but I got the male as an 8 week old pup and then bought the female when my male was 2 years old and the female was 20 months old. Worked well as once they got the "who is boos" settled, no problems. I did not intend to breed them as my male had already been fixed.

I now have a male and female litter mates and it is great. They sometimes fight like a brother and sister, but do not want to go anywhere without the other. The female is fixed so as to not cause any problems. Both were 4 this past September.

I would do it all over again to have 2 in the family.

I have always raised dogs in pairs. It has always worked well for me.

Had a 4 yr old German Shorthaired and brought home a German Shepherd puppy. They are now 12 and 8. Never had any issues. Recently took in a stray Australian Shepherd that is between 6 months to a year. They all get along.

German Shepherd weighes 70-80 pounds. HUGE dog. My Shorthaired Pointer is 40 pounds or so and dominates the Shepherd.

I have a brother and sister from the same litter, they are attached at the hip. They sleep on top of each other, eat together, one will not go out without the other going out. The only draw back is twice the vet and food bill.

This will happen for sure and you will not be the one each dog looks to for guidance, it will be the other dog they bond with every minute of every day.

We got our dogs about 6 months apart. The male is about 8 months older than the female, and they are ~3 year old now and they are fine together. They entertain each other and don't chew anything up. I can't complain.

Good idea, I have a mutt that had horrible separation anxiety. we tried everything in the book you can think of and nothing worked. we got her a friend and now she is 100000000 times better. she actually will go to her kennel when we ask on command, doesn't tear up anything any more, doesn't try to break out of her kennel while we are gone. she was super good when we were home and is probably one of the most loyal dogs I know but she just needed a friend while we were at work.

The one on the left is a huskie german shepherd mix (Bow) and the one on the right is the full bread mutt (Zoey).

Depending on breed / energy, having 2 also helps with the exercise.
