The delete is solely to protect the engine and keep the soot from going back into the engine/turbo.
I never understood the need to get good fuel mileage in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck meant for pulling, hauling and riding like a tank. City boys need to go back to half tons if they are concerned about mileage.

6.4 no problem
My 6.4 was great , was left stock and never had a problem with it .
I saw what tuners did to the 6.0 , turned them into time bombs !!
IMO the 6.4 and 6.0 where not design to " unleash the power "
Stock the 6.4 produces plenty of power and torque ! There are millions of 6.4 still in yo man duty

I am running the H&S Minimaxx tuner with EGR delete as well as the DPF delete. Always use the ford filters for fuel and oil and run Rotella T6 oil and change every 5-6k miles and use CAT coolant. Drain youre water separator every couple weeks. Keep up youre mantinence and these trucks run for a very long time. If you baby a 6.4 you will have problems. These trucks like to work. Keep an eye on your temps while towing and avoiding over boosting the truck to often and you will be very satisfied. I get 17-19mpg .

No reason not to get the best mileage possible. I don't know anyone that goes looking for the vehicle that gets the worst mileage.

The 6.0 disaster is what got the wheels rolling for Ford to build their own diesel.
But yes, the 6.4 is not by any stretch a great engine.
