    F250 6.4 review?

Any 6.4 owners that can give me some insight on these trucks? I'm doing some research before I purchase a truck.

Does it still have the common emissions problem that can be fixed with the EGR Delete? I have read the head stud problem is fixed on the 6.4?

I've read some blogs on the issue but I don't believe anything unless it comes from a TBHer!

    Thanks,
    Edgar

When I was looking, I considered the 6.4

From my research, if you're going to go that route stay away from the 08. Those were the most problematic. The egr and emissions deletes are almost a must do thing. I don't think I know a person with a 6.4 and it's not deleted.

It's definitely head and shoulders more reliable that the 6.0. But, it had its own set of issues.

I didn't end up owning one, so maybe the actual owners of them have better insight. That was just some things I was told and read online and from friends.

Our 6.4 at work is pretty dang tough considering itis a fleet vegicle in a school district, but it only has 76k miles on it. One thing I can tell you is the fuel mileage sucks if the DPF is left intact. We have a 08 F350 2wd and only get about 14 mpg at 70. Can get about 16 until the filter regwns and then it kicks it back to 12. Ive heard of people deleting them and getting in the 20s.

I had one for awhile that was a 10. I had a Spartan tuner on it and I was deleted. Still has issues with hoses on the radiator blowing and several other computer issues. Couldn't wait to dump it if you really want a ford stick with a would 7.3 or a 6.7

          x2

I would stay away from the 6.0 and 6.4

No freaking way would I buy a 6.4 engine. It's a reason the trucks sell for so low. They didn't make/use that engine long and it's a reason why. The 6.0 and 6.4 are the worst engines!

I have a 2009 6.4 bought in 2010 had 20000 miles on it and I deleted everything that could be deleted. I get around 20 mpg if I keep my foot out of it. I pull a 45 foot toy hauler and couldn't be more pleased no problems. I put the 51 gal titan tank on mine and can drive from my home in Argyle to my daughters in Colorado Springs without stopping for fuel.

You couldn't give me a 6.4. Now for the money I would buy another 6.0 they don't get a lot of credit but once their issues are fixed they are very reliable the same can't be said about the the 6.4. Do a google search on 6.4 nightmares should sum it up for you. International didn't design that engine to replace parts everything for it is $$$$$$ in a lot of cases it's cheaper to get a new engine. Bill Hewitt at powerstrokehelp has some good videos about them on YouTube

My dad has a 6.4 in his county work truck. Pulls a trailer with skid steer everywhere. His has almost 200k on it, no major issues. That's a dually with dump bed and 4 door cab. I think it just kind of depends.

He also runs it as hard as he can. Not sure if that makes a difference, but it seems like people who don't run diesels hard have more issues than those who work them hard.

                    Let's see:
The 6.4 is better than the 6.0
The 6.0 is better than the 6.4

Still believe everthing that comes from TBH ?

Andcdotal evidence is not evidence. I have a 6.4 in an F350. No problems at over 120K, but it may blow up tomorrow. That, you can believe !

I have an 08' I bought new. I own a dairy and pull almost daily. I deleted it about 4-5 yrs ago at the time I replaced 2 injectors... that ford warranties, while out of warranty. Since that day the only time it's been in the shop for repaired was a few weeks ago the alternator went out. It's been by far the best truck I've owned/worked... by far. I'll probably replace it later this year or next, only due to age and the possibility of expensive upkeep due to age.

I've had great luck with mine.... also had a 04' 6.0 for 4 years that was awesome as well (but since I sold it, it has been through the ringer)

The 6.7 is great too, I hope I continue to have great service from my super dutys

I have an 08 SRW F350 with 120k miles on it with everything deleted. It has a ton of power and has been an awesome rig!
