Ragin, usually stalking from above them. I find that I usually tend to come in from their rear side to stay away from their eyes. At this point I play the waiting game. Angles are wrong for the shot. I think I need to be more patient and back off and "wait" for them to make their move from 35+ yards. Alot of times, I think I have set-up to close. Not scared at all to take a 50 yard shot......but close is better.

Hard 1/4 away just in front of the ham behind the last rib is my favorite angle. It's messy yes but you hit almost every organ but their kidneys. They ain't going far and the bhead doesn't encounter bone until it try's to exit.

I can actually attest to this shot. I have killed a TON of pigs with it. When I was shooting my longbow it was my go to shot. The blood trail isnt great but when you bust the diaphragm and the head stays in the cavity they dont run far

Intestines, stomach, liver, diagram and lungs. That's too much damage to take.

Quartering away or broadside is what I look for when bow hunting them. With gun, I bust them from whatever angle. We have them on our land. My brother shot his facing straight on at 30 yards last year and he only went maybe 40 yards.

If you stalk up on a bedded Muley what do you do? Is there something you do to make him stand or do you wait him out?

                          Northwest. More west than north

Not saying it's the right way, because we aren't experts by no means, but do hunt them every year. I usually carry a distress mouth call, when hunting mule deer so that when we are in position, I get my brother or myself to draw and then blow on the call, that usually gets them up. but I have had them blow outta there too. I don't have the patience to wait on a bedded deer. Now if it's a giant than that may be a different story.

I shot my first one bedded at 47 yards.

Not trying to debate.....and most times I would agree. On this hunt, I was all in. Last day for my mule deer hunting. As posted above, I knew this deer had 2 other bucks with him because I had been watching him all season. I could not find where they were at. I chose to sneak in from the top from the southeast side which would put me coming the way he was facing. My plan was risky and I knew it but I had more cover from this angle. I figured I had nothing to lose. I crawled in to where I could see the top of his rack. At this point, I am 30 yards. I put my release on, took a deep breath and looked up and he was looking at me. In one motion... I drew... we both stood up, and I side-stepped some brush for a clear shot. I took the only shot I had which was quartering to me in his front chest. Arrow was released. Did not see where the arrow hit and thought I had missed. He trotted off about 40 yards and tipped over!! I could not believe I pulled it off. I was in awe.
You never know what is going to happen when stalking. More and more I have learned that sometimes you have to press forward and hope it works out. This time it did!
