you get an e-mail from the school district saying they are offering tutoring for the parents to be able to help their kids. They're teaching stuff the parents can't hardly do and we're talking grade school.
Its not what they are teaching.. its HOW they are teaching it...
The **** kids have to do to perform SIMPLE math problems these days is RIDICULOUS...
a simple 5+1 = should not involve a paragraph of word statements, and 4 lines of code to do.

Exactly. .....the first time I helped my 4th grader in math.. ...I was like " Who the **** dreamed this shat up!"

Exactly!
I was helping my 6th grade daughter the other day in math and wife is like you cannot teach her that way. My way was faster quicker but she had to explain the logic.
i just had this conversation Friday with some co-workers.
and, to think.....Texas is ranked 43rd in the Nation in Public education.
as already mentioned above - it's the **** adopted curriculum and all the excess.
EDIT *** manwitaplan hit the nail on the head. my 9 and 10 year old get so aggravated with me when i help them with their homework. i help them solve the problem, but, it's not how they are taught, and, dad is WRONG>

Alexis is 10 and she sits there constantly telling me I'm wrong.
They are doing stuff in 3rd grade that we did in junior high. I figure most of the parents are close to half my age. If they are having trouble, just imagine someone that's been out of school for 40 some odd years.
That's why I left the "Public School System" and work for the Army as a Civilian. But I feel for you as some of the homework my Son brings home ... Fries what little Brain Cells I have left ... Lol
I was helping ****** with his homework last night, and I wanted to touch base with you on the division problems he’s having to do (I believe this was for last week when he was absent). Can you tell me why he has to learn so many methods to do long division? He is so frustrated and keeps asking me “Mom, can’t I just divide it?” and I don’t know what to tell him. He doesn’t understand why he has to learn these alternate methods (sequential subtraction, partitioned quotients [can’t remember the exact name]) if he already knows how to simply divide. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Her reply
Yes, mam. The state of Texas says we have to teach all these different methods so that we differentiate instruction. Someone may not understand straight multiplication or long division but might get one of these other methods. But, as I have said in class it's my job to show the students these methods and practice them but I let them pick which way they want to do their problems on home work. There was one paper that I required them to do the distributive property (breaking apart a number by place value) in doing most of the problems
My kids come home from school all the time with bad grades in math. ( stuff I helped them on) They show me their graded papers and 99 percent of the time the answers are right but it's "not solved" correctly.
BS!!!!!!!!!!! If the answer is right then what's the dam difference??!?!?!?
