    Towing 20,000 lbs

My excavator on its trailer, with tools, is around 20k lbs.

Looking for a new to me 1 ton drw to pull it with. Currently pulling it with a 2007 dodge.

Almost bought a 15 ford last night but got the run around from the saleman on the pricing.

Anyway, if you were me, needed a 4x4, crew cab Dually, which truck would you buy and why? I've been looking really hard at the 13-16 Fords but have only owned Cummins. Trying to stay below 50,000 miles.

There all good now days, I own a 6.7 ford and I can't imagine needing anymore power than it has.

Is this pulling it back and forth from the ranch a couple times a year or towing it a couple times a week to different job sites? If I take is the latter, 20k is a pretty decent chunk of weight to pull regularly and the tires, brakes, rear end, etc, will last longer if you step to up an F-450/F-550. You can get crew cabs with nicer interiors, I'd check out some of the horse forums classifieds.

I'm not a real brand loyal guy, but have a family member that does the same (or very similar) job you do. He's pulling a skid steer or equipment many times a week. He had the GMC one ton and went back to a Ford 6.7 liter. If the '17 models are an option for you put my vote there. I got a 3/4 ton about 6 weeks ago and they didn't miss on anything with these trucks. All that being said there aren't huge differences in any of the big three. Kinda like picking which bow feels right to you.

The new 17 Duramax will pull the wheels off that thing.

Just got a '17 dodge cab and chassis. Had a flatbed put on it. It has a heavy duty transmission. It is a towing beast.

15 Powerstroke is the best towing truck I have ever driven. Power, exhaust braking, engine braking, transmission, trailer brake controller that work both electric and electric/hydraulic brakes, it does it all

We use dodge for about everything, the newer one still have the capacity but the we've been having a lot of problems with the exhaust regen systems. Not so bad to switch to ford or Chevy, but enough to switch from diesel to gasoline engines. This is for pulling backhoes and 110 hp ditch-witch trenchers.

My brother has a 2012 Ford F-350(single wheel)w/ 6.7 diesel. He pulls a 35' gooseneck w/ about 13-14k lbs. Somewhat regularly. I driven it with that load on there. Man, that thing is some kind of strong. I know it's not the same load you're trying to pull, but it pulls it around so easily, that I can imagine that it would struggle w/ 20K. That 6.7 is a beast. And, it's a really nice truck. His has a lariat trim package and has some really nice bells and whistles.

I have a '14 Ram with 66k and have had no problems. I've pulled quite a bit of heavy loads and it does just fine. This is coming from a guy who does not just poke around. I'm sure any of the big 3 will do fine.

Single wheel f-350 here with a 6.4. I haul 15, 5x6 bales @ 1800 avg a piece all summer long. Thousands and thousands over the years. It will pull it as fast as you want to go and stop it yoo
