It would be very difficult for the deceased family to find and afford a lawyer capable and willing to take on a case that is virtually a sure loss because of the law on the books saying the shooter is immune from civil suit. Sure anybody can sure anybody for anything. But when there is a law that explicitly states the shooter is immune from civil suit in a shooting that was deemed legal, your chances of loosing much money to a lawyer in a civil suit after legally using deadly force is low.

That being said, your statement, "Every bullet that comes out of your gun has a potential lawyer tied to it." is dead on. There's lots of things a bullet can do besides hit somebody who should've (and legally could've) been hit.

Also, I am in no way a lawyer and cannot give sound legal advice because I've got no schooling. Im just odd and like reading into law speak
Agreed. The attorney fees for the grand jury and potential civil suit aren't worth it over property.

I believe Joe Horn spent into the 6 figures.

Well I've killed fox for stealing chickens, snakes for stealing eggs and crows for stealing chicks. Not counting other critters for stealing from me. I see no difference other than laws that protect the criminals.

Just remember, if all first time offenders were killed, there'd be no second time offenders.

Can't say what I'd do until I'm faced with the situation.

What Christians would think doesn't matter to me and one more human life won't hurt my sleep anymore than it already has.

I love these what if threads that differ from the original OP's post.

Enjoy, and handle things the way you feel best.

There would also be many dead young people who might have made a mistake but could still be reformed or become good people. I bet there are people on this very forum who had a wild streak as a teen, but turned into productive, honest adults.
