    Ok! What's the reason?

Why do people allow diesel trucks to run when they're not in them?

I was in Lampasas the other day trying to eat a Storms Burger out on the patio and there were about 5 $70000 dollar F250 trucks sitting there running, 3 of them had no one in them, there owners were sitting outside eating burgers. My wife and I were sitting there choking to death from diesel fumes. I grew up on a farm, but we never had any diesel trucks. So, what's the deal? Thank god there not as loud as the used to be. Sorry, just had to rant.

I run mine to keep the Ac going in the summertime.

In the winter, I run it just to annoy people at Storms

Yep, I leave mine running if it is very hot or really cold outside when I have my dog with me.

They probably run them to give busybodies something to talk about.

That's what I've always heard. I usually leave my truck running all the time. Once left it on at night. Was searching for my keys and went out to find it still running.

I understand that it used to have something to do with oil and a turbo, but that is not the case anymore and it is no longer necessary. I could be wrong, it won't be the first time.

on the newer diesels it's not good to let them idle as they don't run hot enough for the exhaust system to operate properly (the ones that use DEF and have DP filters), at least that is true for the big truck engines.

You just have to idle the new ones up. It doesn't hurt.

Afraid if they turn it off the POS won't start again.

You are correct sir. On the newer ones unless they are deleted it is better to shut them off vs letting them idle. Now mine on the other hand loves to idle. It's an older model pre-def
