I'm not sure Trump is going for isolationism, I think he's more about establishing dominance and Top Dog status. I think he's marking his territory, then after he's done we'll come back around and re establish relationships, but from a different angle

Not sure too many people in our region are willing to get in bed with Russia. Especially since that would be a very slippery slope. Russia would basically take over and I think most countries realize that and wouldn't invite that kind of trouble.

I used to work for a very shrewed business man. When dealing with suppliers he was brutal.....slow paying them and holding their funds hostage. Particularly with major suppliers. If one would get cranky and put us on credit hold he would shift to another supplier even if it cost him money to do so. Eventually supplier "A" would come crawling back and if they didn't he would tie them up in litigation for two years before they got paid.
The man was the master of playing "hardball" and "the man with the gold rules."

I imagine Trump is used to playing this way as well. American interest first.....all others be #%^*.

A lot of people don't stop to consider unintended consequences. Prime example, you didn't see a lot of 30.06 signs until businesses were required to post 30.07 signs. Then all of a sudden businesses got both, hurting CHL people.

Your comment is definitely worthy of discussion, because Russia can easily jump in and start mining the gold & silver of Mexico, which would be an unintended consequence of what trump is doing now.

We are finally giving back some of what we been getting all these years instead of just rolling over and being taken advantage of. Take care of your household first. Rock on President TRUMP!

It's certainly a possibility. Right now, as everybody on this thread is saying, Mexico gets a lot from us. But if we shut down the border and stop buying a lot of stuff from Mexico, then they aren't getting much from us anymore. If all of that happens, they'd definitely be in a position where they'd be willing to listen to other offers.

Getting control of our border is necessary. Trade wars are usually bad ideas. Hopefully, after dropping out of all our trade agreements we'll negotiate new ones that are beneficial without going overboard on all the isolationist stuff. America first is great. America only would create lots of unintended consequences.

Agree! And let's be honest, we can't survive without Mexico manufacturing. We will never be able to compete with their labor rates and manufacturing rates! That's the facts, they need us and we need them!

We survived without their manufacturing for 90 percent of our history. Other than the recent trend of US auto and machinery manufacturers using their cheap labor what do Mexicans manufacture we use?

It's a good thing the greatest generation did think that way. Nor their parents and their parents parents. You know. The ones who actually built the world's greatest country ever. Only to hand the reins over to generations that think America's best interests lie outside of it's borders? Nope I believe in America and the strength of the American people.
