Pretty much my picks, I might take Trinity over Houston.

I could trade several counties out on that one lol. Trinity, Nacogdoches, Smith, Hopkins etc.

Brooks county-great deer genetics, waterfowl, nilgai, quail/dove
Real county-frio river, exotics, arrowheads
Don't know enough about east Texas to make a choice.

Just saw you didn't want to be by the coast. Jim Hogg county is where I would buy.

For the south texas counties right on the border, none of y'all would have any worries?
It's sad that we have to worry about it, but a couple years ago I hunted a big ranch in cotulla ( which was an awesome place ) and the huge lodge had bars on the windows and heavy duty locks on everything.....

I just couldn't spend the money on a place and have to worry about that...?

What's yalls opinion about it?

My ex in laws ranch in Zavala cnty and at one time ran /leased lot of country down there. One ranch had a lodge that closed up like Fort Knox . I'm with you

Ideally, by the coast would be great to be within an hour of fishing. But it takes one good hurricane to smoke your whole ranch compared to a county a little more inland your chances go down.

South texas what county would it be?
La Salle because it has big deer and I like hunting that county.

Hill country what county would it be?
Bandera lots of deer and I have property there.

Central / East texas what county would it be?
Don't want to hunt there. Can't even think of a place.

Please give why's.
