Congrats on your daughter getting in.
T
Our house has become a house divided as the Mrs and I were born and raised in Austin and our oldest just got into TAMU School of Engineering. I know how you feel!! Seeing our children grow into young Adults is bitter sweet.

Congratulations! I have 2 daughters there now (with a HS senior son accepted and considering), and I have been very pleased with the experience, education and social opportunities they have received.
When my oldest accepted, I was very concerned about the size and the people she might hang out with. Fortunately (i.e. by the grace of God), we received a mailout from "Ignite, Texas!", a non-denominational Christian ministry that offers a retreat for incoming Christian students to meet others of their belief. Both of my daughters made great friends who shared and live their beliefs prior to even moving in and starting classes.
Both continued to be involved in this ministry. If your daughter is interested in this, I would be more than happy to send you more information and answer any questions. Likewise, if she would like to visit with either or both of my daughters, both of whom have been or are involved in leadership for Ignite, then that could probably be arranged as well. This ministry has been an immeasurable blessing to my family.
Again, congratulations and well done fellow dad!

PS - while the finances can be daunting, there are a lot of scholarship and work related opportunities out there. Both of my daughters received private scholarships and both have worked a year as RA's. An RA that shares a room gets free room and board and tuition (ie. full rides) and those that choose to not share a dorm room still get free room and board but pay for tuition. Getting an RA position is competitive, and it helps to get a recommendation from a former RA. Both of my daughters got recs from other young ladies who they had met through Ignite and who were former RA's.

Couldn't be more proud right. Just have to figure out how to pay for it now.
