You get a group of people together from any walk of life - doctors, lawyers, welders, zoo keepers, etc and hear them talk politics,(or worse, public policy) a sizeable percentage of them will have strongly held but un-examined views. Many - if not most - can only parrot something they overheard somewhere. The difference with celebrities is, the media gives them a voice and hangs on every word they say - which makes them feel that their opinions carry more weight then yours or mine. There is a reason you never hear any of these people actually debate someone with an opposing view - they would get shredded after they ran through their handful of bumper sticker talking points.
