Btw, I've never been to that church, but I have a great deal of respect for Matt Chandler and his teaching, I listen to the podcasts, well religiously (pun intended).

This is in a congregation of probably around 2,000.

It didn't feel right, but didn't know if someone invited them and were guests... anyway, they pretty much played on their phones all service, took selfies, didn't close their eyes to pray etc. I wasn't carrying either.

At the end of the service, the group of three signaled to the other group of 2 and they got up and left right before we were to take communion.

Obviously nothing happened, but afterwards wondered if they were scoping it out for a future attack. It's kind of a tricky situation as I don't want to be one to wrongfully judge another person but it Was probably dumb on my part not to say anything to security. We have police security but the suicide bombing deal has definitely crossed my mind. I'll be carrying later today.
From what you just described they were obviously casing the place out.. Splitting up and Taking pictures is a dead give away... Totally not normal..

I would report this to a LEO and have a serious talk with the pastor and church board.. No way would I let that slide....

      Wow

At LEAST 50% of the males in our congregation carry on Sunday's including myself and our Pastor. Many of the women carry as well. We encourage licensed concealed carry... we are as far from a soft target as you can find.

Unfortunately armed men, setting in church, are no match for a suicide bomber, walking in, wearing an explosive vest and hitting the button..
Scary and dangerous times that our lousy, irresponsible government and open border policy has created for the civilians of this nation...

If 5 terrorist walk in and sit down in your church with suicide vests on does it really even matter if all 2,000 members were carrying? They sit down and then blow themselves and everybody else up without warning. Better profile and kill them as they walk in the door.

You are correct but we also have men at every point of entry/exit and in the parking lot armed and on the lookout for potential threats. Some may call it profiling or whatever but we all know what most terrorists look like. I'm not saying a middle eastern looking person wouldn't be welcomed but I would like to believe that someone would notice that something isn't right about a particular person if they had ill intentions.

Some great ideas. We've have been discussing forming a security detail at our church also. Something along these lines.

The vetting before letting them in the door is the tricky part.
1 with bad intentions is all it takes.

No issues at Tree of Life in New Braunfels tonight but the wife and I both carried and sat up front by the exit doors.

If not casing the joint they may at least have been hoping for an over-reaction to make headlines.

I was in a similar circumstance once and it also amounted to nothing but it for sure raised my situational awareness.
