Alright, after fighting with my lap top, here are the pictures that I promised.

The tile installer did not scrape away the old grout before installing the new tiles. So, there are places where there are huge gaps in the tile, and places where there are no gaps at all, thus making it impossible to grout.

Here you can see where there was no room for the installer to put spacers in, so he used cardboard. Of course, after a couple of minutes the tile slide down crushing the cardboard and leaving no gap for the grout. Also, notice the partial piece of tile was installed on the left hand side. But if you look above the shelf in the shower, you will see that the partial piece of tile was on the right. Sure, this is cosmetic but the point of warranty repairs is to restore the house to it's original condition.

This is not debris left on the floor, it is thin set which has hardened on the linoleum.

The bucket on the far right in this picture was left sitting on top of the torn linoleum, purposely hiding the tear from us. On the left side of the picture you can see a grey smudge on the floor. This is also thin set that has dried.

So yeah, if I were to have done this work when I laid tile for a living, I would have been fired.

Design Supercenter are the ones that did the work. An installation supervisor just came out to inspect the work. He said the tile does need to be redone and he got on the phone with his office to get it scheduled while he was still in the house. He also talked to the installer and asked what happened. All the installer had to say is yeah, I messed up.

Ridiculous.... shouldn't be using installers that don't know what they're doing in the first place....

That's what is so crazy. They guy that did the tile install is the same guy that installed a tile floor for us over a year ago in our old house and he did a good job. I think he was rushed and that is why he cut corners.

I got a response today from the warranty guy about the cracked ceiling. He said Stylecraft will fix it one time, and after that it is up to the homeowner to repair it. He said that once the shower is fixed a guy will come out to fix the ceiling, the nail pop, and the floor in front of the shower that was damaged during the demolition of the shower to replace the shower pan.

Good lord man. I feel for you. Just went through a remodel. ..One of the contract guys we hired had a stellar track record and I had seen his work. However, by the time he got to us, he had gotten on meth. Work went to crap and unreliable. Very frustrating dealing with sub par folk.

This morning there seems to be a change in how this situation is being handled. Design supercenter came back out and they are in the process of ripping out everything that has been done since Monday. The warranty guy even hung around this morning for an hour to supervise the work. He just left and he stated he will be back in about an hour.

Well, I think they finally got on the ball because a member here sent this thread to a sales executive and the member told the sales executive that if this didn't get addressed properly then stylecraft will not get his $350k for a new house.

About a month ago, stylecraft doubled its warranty staff to try to improve the warranty process. So at least they recognized there was a problem and addressed it.

This thread has gone quit far up the food chain at Stylecraft. I just got off the phone with Doug French who is the chief executive officer for stylecraft. He called me to apologize for stylecraft dropping the ball. Several times during the conversation he apologized and he assured me that the warranty department is one area they have recently over hauled and are continuing to improve upon.

Also, the tile guys just left. The 2 guys spent about 5 hours here today making things right and already the shower looks the way it did when we first bought the house. The grout will be done tomorrow. The warranty guy made 4 visits to the house today to check up on the progress as well.

I'll agree, that's pretty shotty. I am dealing with the same issue stylecraft is probably having. We have a shortage of good tile guys. The ones that are good are expensive and over booked. We do our tile through a 3rd party now which kind of helps but they have to hire new people all the time. The new hires get trained and see how much money the other guys are making and leave(but they still suck at laying tile) it seems like it's a never ending process. And all the good guys get overbooked and rushed. It's a lose lose situation.

Well, the tile guys just left and the shower now looks good. All of the grout work has been done and the guy did a good job on it. So now on Monday the glass guy is supposed to come to put the surround back in.

I got a phone call today from the glass people. They will be out tomorrow to measure and make sure the old glass will fit. I was not expecting anyone to come over yesterday since, for most places, it was a holiday.

That was not the only update today. In our mail was a letter from Doug French, the CEO of Stylecraft. The letter was not typed up on company letter head but rather was a handwritten letter. It stated, much like how the telephone call went, that on behalf of Stylecraft, he apologizes for Stylecraft dropping the ball. At the end of the note was a brief additional note that stated please accept this small gift and take your wife out to eat somewhere. Included in the letter was a $100 gift card.
