    Any locksmiths? Safe question

I am wanting to get a safe and was looking at the dial type because they seem to last longer and be simpler. I am wanting to find out which one I can change the combo on my self because I dont like the idea of someone else knowing my combo. I am trying to stay away from the digital safes because of problems down the road. I have heard it may void the warrenty if anyone messes with it other than a certified locksmith but feel I can tackle the job. So which dial type safe is the simplest to change the combo on? It will need to be fireproof and around 23 cu ft of storage.

    You want a S&G

dial....most of the better safe brands use them.

I had my biz safe combo changed some time ago and it's not a big issue for good locksmiths.

We had another thread on gun safes....I like the American Securities / AmSec B/F series for the $$$$

    opinions vary.

        I watched him do it....

...he had a special gadget / key that he aligned and stuck into the back of the dial and did a bunch of spins to make it happen.

I could not walk you though it....way over my head. I suggest paying to have it done and get some quotes.

I'm lucky....my smith is a buddy and didn't cost me anything but a cold beer after working hours.

I work on ATM's, if it is anything like the dial locks on them it is pretty easy. You do need a change key for it though.

You definitely want a S&G. Changing the combo is pretty easy as long as you have the "change key". I've dealt with them most of my military career and can easily walk you through changing one. I'm pretty sure I have diagramed (sp?) instructions at work.

Can you send a Pic of the back of the lock, I can get you one if it is the same as the ones we have on our ATM's

There are over 20 change keys for a S&G dial.

I am planning on buying on and just wanted to check and see if anyone knew about this. I did not want to buy one brand and find out that another brand with a manual lock can be changed.

Are there any safes with a manual lock that can have the combo changed?

IF I get one with a SG lock I should be able to find the model number and then buy the right change key correct? How much will this run me?

Changing the combination is easy, but easily screwed up. I don't know if S&G would sell you a key if you gave them the serial number. I sold all my safe tools. There is nothing wrong with a S&G electronic lock.
