Ticket for exhaust delete on diesel truck

I bought a new Ram 3500 flat bed to pull my trailers.
It seems to be a decent truck but it is really sluggish.
I had a full delete kit on my 2011 1 ton and it made a world of difference.
I'm having a hard time finding a shop that will do the full delete on my 2016.
They say the EPA has really cracked down on them and that the ticket for running your truck with a after market exhaust is $7,500.00 to $10,000.00

Anyone ever had a ticket for this ?

Who would write the ticket, does the EPA pull you over going down the highway?

    DPS will.

I can't answer the fine part of it, but sluggish is not a term my friends with a 6.7 Cummins use to describe it. Could there be another problem?

Defines "tampering" and what kinds of vehicle repairs can be made to correct tampering. Texas law prohibits selling or leasing tampered vehicles.

With the delete the 2011 was pushing 750 horses so slugish is just comparing the new one to the old one

Good info but I wonder if anyone ever actually has been given a ticket for this ?

Running a after market exhaust is pretty common up here in this part of the state

DPS has issued tickets for it to motorists caught near Cleburne. Not sure on exact details.

In my experience, no they won't. College roommate is now a DPS trooper (did commercial enforcement) and I called him to get the scoop on this before deleting my old ford. He said they only have jurisdiction on commercial vehicles and even then most of their guys don't know what to look for because the have basic training on passenger vehicles and a more extensive training on tractor trailer rigs. He also said that there is no violation for them to cite for actual emissions other than some cities having excessive smoking ordinances and there is absolutely no violation he can write to a non commercial driver over emission system modification.

What has changed is the epa cracking down on shops doing the installs and on the programmers themselves. For a dodge I believe the efi live tunes are highly sought after. You may need to find a local mechanic that does cash jobs to do the install but the actual programming side of it is very easy. I did a full delete on my f250 in about 2 hrs in the driveway.

Personally, I don't go around blowing black smoke while driving. If you don't do that, DPS will probably have no reason to ever pull you over. The only police I know say they knows its illegal, they just have bigger fish to fry than some guy driving a diesel with a straight pipe.

Additionally, with the changing of the presidency, national priorities at the EPA will change.

I guess its more of a question of are you will to take that risk?

What else was done? Because you won't get that kind of horsepower with just a delete.

The fine should be less than running the red stuff

                          A lot of stuff
I dropped it off at a custom off road shop and had them put everything they could think of on it.
When I picked it up it was hard to start out with without spinning the rear tires.

It didnt blow smoke every where, it just had lots of power.
This part of the state you are either going up a hill or down. Not much flat ground at all.
It sure made a difference pulling equipment up these long hills

There was a thread on this the other day. I also believe there was a thread where someone on 290 got wrote for a straight pipe last year.

The black and white of the law states you're required to have a muffler. Period. Does stuff like that get by passed? Sure it does. Any LEO is able to write the citation if they choose cause its a violation of Texas transportation code (547). My agencies ticket program has it, heck its even got no fishing license.

Put a high flow muffler on it and get nearly the same performance without the worry. My personal opinion of the added stuff on diesels is: EPA has caused so many additions to them the mileage and performance factor of a factory truck is out the window. When you can mod one and get 5-8 mpg (or better) with a little smoke now and then, whats the difference in burning twice as much fuel and doing in 'clean'????

I would worry more about getting it inspected than anything.
