With you on the bolt actions! Never been a fan of AR's really but everyone has their preferences. I like to kill at least a deer and couple hogs with one of my lever guns a year as well

        Is it just me?

I think it's cooler outside and more people are shooting. I know I'm more likely to see hogs and my shots are shorter here, so have the .300 loaded with supers for last day of doe season.

          Love my bolt guns!

Still trying to get use to my AR's! (kind of like washing your feet with your socks on! )

Some liberal said " Nobody uses those war guns for hunting!" Guess we just had to prove them wrong.

You look at the evolution of the hunting rifle and it follows several military surplus/post war rifles. I don't have a problem with it. My personal opinion is that I want a .243 minimum caliber. When my son is old enough to shoot well with a .243 he can hunt deer.

I love my old Remington model 600 mohawk .308 topped with a Redfield 3x9. It was given to me by my grandfather. I haven't rifle hunted in years, but if I were, it would be that or my Rem 700 .243 bolt.

If more people started shooting AR's there would be a lot less pigs
                  And Coons

They should give a bonus deer tag as long as you use an AR to kill 50 coons and 10 pigs.

It depends on the application but I only own one bolt gun any more. One TC and the rest are AR platform rifles. They manage recoil well, fast follow up shots when needed and if you buy or build the right one they can match accuracy at normal hunting ranges. That said I seldom kill a deer with a rifle.

I like both. I don't know about Texas but in Oklahoma you can't use a 30 round magazine or anything close to it for deer huntin. If you have the same amount of bullets in both rifles you're not really at much more of an advantage with one or the other. And if you empty the rifle on whatever you're trying to kill.......I don't know what to tell ya.

30 years in uniform and I had all the ARs I wanted--give me blued steel and walnut every time.

No it's not just you. I've noticed a lot of LDPs with AR's this year.

I have an ar. Never have thought about taking it hunting, probably never will.

It's just you. I for one don't care what people shoot as long as it is legal and ethical. I applaud those who care enough to shoot-in a rifle to cleanly and humanely kill an animal, no matter what they are using.

I wonder how many people also look down on people who use shot guns, single shots or even bows because it isn't what they consider "appealing" according to their traditions.

This is no different that bowhunters complaining about crossbows during bow season.

We are all hunters, try not to loose sight of that; division will cause us all to loose those things we hold dear. Even people who shoot bolt actions.
